Randy Newman / Haarlem, Feb. 22, 1983, fm broadcast

Another one of Hans tapes, which I've chaptered. All credit to Hans for taking the time to share this tape.

I've edited the tape flip breaks as best as possible.  There are a few other edits that can't be fixed....but in general we've got a very clear FM show here..about two hours of excellent sounding Randy Newman.  As he alternates between loud and quieter dynamics in his playing and singing, I chose not to normalize all of the tracks to equal volumes.

Graham Parker & the Rumour, Rotterdam, December 19, 1977 KRO fm broadcast

Graham Parker & the Rumour
Rotterdam, Netherlands
December 19, 1977

KRO radio, with a broadcast date in January 1978

This show was recorded by Hans Devente and digitized as a single flac file in July 2014 from his original cassette tape of the broadcast.  I normalized the channels, fixed some minor clipping of the right channel in Audacity, and chaptered the songs.

These are flac files of wavs.

The sound on this is exceptionally good for a thirty-four year old tape.  It's clear, clean, good highs and lows....if you like GP & the R, you'll like this set.

Happy Mondays - Live Wembley 1991

Happy Mondays - Live Wembley Arena,
London, England,
January 18, 1991
Unknown Broadcast Source @320

Along with the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays were the leaders of the late-'80s/early-'90s dance club-influenced Manchester scene, experiencing a brief moment in the spotlight before collapsing in 1992. While the Stone Roses were based in '60s pop, adding only a slight hint of dance music, Happy Mondays immersed themselves in the club and rave culture, eventually becoming the most recognizable band of that drug-fueled scene. The Mondays' music relied heavily on the sound and rhythm of house music, spiked with '70s soul licks and swirling '60s psychedelia. It was bright, colorful music that had fractured melodies that never quite gelled into cohesive songs.

When I first listened to this show (alone, unfortunately) it blew me
off. Whew!
A couple of months later, love came into my life. Lucky me, when my
lover asked for music, I remembered old John Lee. He turned us more than on!
(Details censored.)
Then we had a "baby" ? the show urgently needed remastering! And who is
the right person to clean up a mess? Yep, Wolf! It took us some time to convince
him. Finally he agreed. So here you go: Keep on movin' up, baby!
Dedicated to ERWE with all my love!

Greg Kihn / South Mountain Music Fair, West Orange, NJ Aug. 5, 1981 WNEW-FM

Greg Kihn was a local home-town rock hero here in the Bay Area, putting out an album a year between 1976 and his commercial break-through with his Top 10 hit “Jeopardy” in 1983. During those years, his hard-working band was second-billed on dozens of local shows, opening for major acts at Winterland, the Cow Palace, and the Oakland Coliseum.

In a night club, the Greg Kihn Band were a great, fun live act, and I have many memories of watching them play live. Kihn always had great taste in cover songs, and here he knocks out Chuck Berry’s “Around and Around,” Lou Reed’s “Sweet Jane,” and the Modern Lovers’ “Roadrunner,”….and his drummer, Larry Lynch, takes a lead vocal on Jackie Wilson’s “Higher and Higher.”

I'm not sure about the provenance of this tape; it's not one of my master cassettes.  A friend mailed me his copy and I digitized it back in the early 2000s; it's supposedly from a master cassette, but I can't confirm that as a fact.

k.d. lang and the Reclines / Disney World, Westwood One Presents #90-13

Westwood One's "Westwood One Presents" shows don't turn up very often.  I've only identified two other shows; one was a Michael Martin Murphey show, and the other is the Anne Murray show mentioned in the closing credits of this show.

The commercials are promoting a different range of products than the beer, chewing gum, and chocolate advertising that is often on the "Superstars In Concert" and "In Concert" broadcasts. My guess is that the "Presents" show targeted the large Adult Contemporary market that became popular in the 1980s; however, there's a "Presents" theme song at the beginning and end of this show that's a country music fiddle break, so it may have also been directed at the current country & western market (and both Murray and Murphey would fit comfortably in both genres).

I've included scans of the cue sheet and disc label.

Track 21 is probably named incorrectly.  The cue sheet calls it "Shaka Rocka Polka" but I've not found any such track in lang's discography.  I did searches based on the lyrics and came up with nothing.  An obvious guess at the title is the word "Brokenhearted" which is the key word from the chorus.  If anyone recognizes it, can you please leave the title in the comments below?

Also...if you don't have her back catalog, there's a great collection called "Original Album Series" that's got her first five (major label) releases that can be found on Amazon for as low as $15.00.  It's a budget release, simple cardboard sleeves with no liner notes, but at that price, you're making out like bandit.

UPDATE:  I did some more seaching on the Internet, and found the names of some more of the artists that were on the Westwood One Presents show...artists like the Judds, Rodney Crowell, George Jones, Juice Newton, Highway 101....so I would say it was more of a country & western show than Adult contemporary.
