Duane Eddy emerged as the leading guitar instrumentalist of the primordial rock & roll era, his twangy reign beginning with the incendiary "Rebel-Rouser" (of course, it didn't hurt that Dick Clark was one of his managers, ensuring plenty of airplay on American Bandstand). Eddy had honed his Chet Atkins-influenced guitar chops in country bands around Phoenix during the mid-'50s, his musical fortunes advanced by a young producer named Lee Hazlewood. Once Eddy began concentrating on the properties of his axe's low strings and whammy bar, his menacing sound was set. Eddy's first 45 for Philadelphia-based Jamie Records, "Moovin' N' Groovin," became a mild national hit in the spring of 1958 and set the stage for "Rebel-Rouser." Dramatically opening the track all by his lonesome by picking out a highly distinctive melody on his bass strings, the rest of the band fell in soon thereafter and momentum built fast. The key modulated up a half-step every 12 bars, Eddy sticking strictly to his low-end licks as the gang at Ramsey Recorders pounded out a stomping beat and a recently installed echo chamber rigged up from a 200-dollar grain storage tank made Eddy's simple but strong riffs sound downright threatening in their aggression. The historic Phoenix session took place in March of 1958, but Hazlewood and his partner Lester Sill weren't quite finished with the track. The pair took the master to Hollywood's Gold Star Studios and overdubbed a romping sax break by Gil Bernal (a frequent presence on the Robins' Jerry Leiber/Mike Stoller-masterminded mid-'50s classics for the Spark logo) and "rebel yells" by the Sharps, a black vocal group who cut their own Hazlewood-produced rocker for Jamie ("Have Love, Will Travel" with Eddy on lead guitar) before morphing into the Rivingtons of "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" fame. "Rebel-Rouser" made the handsome young Eddy a national star, spiking up to number six on Billboard's Hot 100 during the summer of 1958.

As far as I know this one is not for Helloween,although many people in those days thought the devil himself had entered the stage.

 "These tapes are from Ross. He was known for low gen newly circulated genuine Jimi studio jams and concerts. His Maui tape

sounds like no other and the most aesthetic to my ears of all sources. The songs on most of his stuff is at the right speed.
Not sure what gen his stuff is, but it sure sounds clean n neat n complete. These pre-date DAT tape too.

Now this oughta prove interesting.. My friend knew Ross better. He actually bought tapes from him, I didn't(except for Maui).
He saw him several times. I had bad luck and didn't go to the conventions at the same time that he did. Since he only went
in summer and every other month I guess. Anyway one day my friend tells me that Ross is switching to cdr from cassettes. At
the same time bootleggers at conventions were getting squeezed by all the folks that could burn discs. The "real" silver
bootleg cdeeze were drying up rapidly too. Anyway Ross made a final offer one summer by providing an 11 tape series of all
his studio stuff. My friend only had enough cash to buy four of them. He took #2, 3, 6, & 7. Shortly after buying these tapes
Ross generally dissappeared from the scene.

These uploads are right off the raw cassettes, no altering at all..."

One more from my collection of shows I taped from local radio. Robben Ford works in a blues-rock style, but with a bit of jazz thrown into the mix. He has worked with artists such as George Harrison on his '74 tour, Joni Mitchell, and Miles Davis, and has been nominated for four Grammy awards.

Sound quality is excellent; this is right off my high-bias metal master tape.

" Bob Marley And The Wailers" toured the U.S. in May and June of 1978, primarily playing mid-sized venues like music and orchestra halls. The band is coming off their now-historic performance at the "One Love Peace Concert" in April, their first performance back on the island since Marley’s attempted assassination and the "Smile Jamaica Concert" in December 1976. They are touring the U.S. in support of their new album Kaya, which was released on March 23, 1978. On June 8, 1978 they play two shows at the famed Boston Music Hall, a performing arts center located on Tremont Street in Boston. This venue was originally known as the Metropolitan Theatre when it opened in 1925. It seats more than 3,600 people. There were also some changes to the band`s performance style in the first post hiatus tours.The pace of the music was slower, partly because of the nature of the new material in the rotation, and partly because it took time for the band to regain their rhythmic feet  as a dual drummer outfit (Kreutzmann noted that "Things maybe didn`t flow as easily for awhile.") Joe Houston, a honking R&B saxman of wallpaper-peeling potency, recorded for virtually every major independent R&B label in Los Angeles during the 1950s. When the jump blues tradition faded, he segued right into rock & roll, even cutting budget Twist and surf albums for Crown that didn't sound very different from what he was doing a decade before. Houston played around Houston, Texas with the bands of Amos Milburn and Joe Turner during the late '40s. It was Turner who got the young saxist his first deal with Freedom Records in 1949. Houston found his way to the West Coast in 1952 and commenced recording for labels big and small: Modern, RPM, Lucky, Imperial, Dootone, Recorded in Hollywood, Cash, and Money (as well as the considerably better-financed Mercury, where he scored his only national R&B hit, "Worry, Worry, Worry," in 1952). Houston's formula was simple and savagely direct -- he'd honk and wail as hard as he could, from any conceivable position: on his knees, lying on his back, walking the bar, etc. His output for the Bihari brothers' Crown label (where he was billed as "Wild Man of the Tenor Sax") is positively exhilarating: "All Nite Long," "Blow Joe Blow," and "Joe's Gone" are herculean examples of single-minded sax blasting. Joe Houston remained active musically into the 2000s, emphasizing his blues vocal talent more than previously, until suffering a stroke in 2005. He re-emerged and began playing again for a period of time thereafter, but then retreated from the public and to the company of family and friends.

Frampton - SuperGroups In Concert 1979

Three years after releasing one of the biggest albums of the decade, Peter Frampton was on tour, trying to recover some career momentum. The last three years had seen the rush-release of “I’m In You (1977) which capitalized on his teen-idol good looks (instead of his good guitar licks), followed by the embarrassing Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band movie and soundtrack (1978).

He needed a comeback in 1979, and while “Where I Should Be” was only a middling album, it had some very good songs on it. If you cherry-pick the best of them and mix ‘em up with some of the classics from Frampton Comes Alive, you have a pretty decent set list.

And that’s what’s on this edition of SuperGroups In Concert: a good, solid set of classic Frampton that only duplicates six of the “Comes Alive” songs.

This was the fourth SuperGroups In Concert show and it was broadcast on Sept. 15, 1979. The Premiere of the SuperGroups series had been the group Chicago (May 12, 1979), followed by the Moody Blues (July 28, 1979), the Allman Brothers (August 25, 1979), and then Frampton. So while the number on the disc is SGC-103, this was the fourth in the series. A recent ad for the show on Ebay stated that the number of stations in the syndication was 300, so that's likely to be about the number of copies pressed up of this set.

I digitized this directly from the 3-lp syndicated radio discs and then manually declicked the files one click at a time in Audacity. I’ve included scans of the cue sheet, commercial instructions, and a disc label.
