Free?

I have bills just like most everyone else. I have PAID for my Rapidshare account since 2008. In that time I have had EXACTLY 4 people donate anything to the Paypal account. Yes, that's right 4 people out of the MILLIONS of visitors. That includes the start of the original Floppy Boot Stomp, Son O' Floppy Boot Stomp, Floppy Boot Stomp II and HERE.
My suggestion for free users? Get off your ass, get a job and earn some money to get whatever it is you want. I'm not just talking about a RS account. I'm talking about anything. If you haven't realized it by now there are no free lunches.

{I will occasionally post to a mirror if I have time....end of rant}

The groovy runout grooves say
BBC Rock Hour #211 - A Version A
BBC Rock Hour #211 - B Version A

When I first posted this digitization in 2013, I identified the venue as the Paris Theatre.  I had good reason; BBC announcer Richard Skinner says that's where the concert was recorded.

As part of my desire to make VW the best blog in the Milky Way Galaxy, I am updating old posts.  Better file tagging, correcting errors, adding newspaper coverage, documenting the run-out grooves...the usual obsessive desire of a music collector to create order out of chaos. The internet has more information now, so it's worth taking a second look at what I thought I knew.  And at the same time, to keep in mind that there's more incorrect information available to us, too.

For this BBC Rock Hour, research revealed a grey market CD up on Discogs named "In Concert 1971-1973," attributing the show to "Golders Green Hippodrome, London on 20 November 1973."  There's also a notation on the bootleg "Quinn the Escimo" saying "This release claims that the recording is from Paris Theatre London, 1973, which is incorrect. In 1973 there was no MMEB concert at Paris Theatre. It was actually recorded at Golders Green Hippodrome, London (BBC In Concert) 20 Nov 1973."

That date and venue is the general consensus attribution for this show. I wasn't able to find a print listing for the concert, though.

Yes, the Oh Boy bootleg's title is really "Quinn the Escimo."

Welcome back race car fans to the NASCAR Rock and Roll 500. Right before we went to break we were talking about how the number 14 car the Van Halen Toyota, has not left pit row due to it's driver David Roth not being able to tear himself away from looking at his face in the rear view." Uh..oh Chuck looks like there's a problem on the track".  "The number 6 car the Gun's and Roses car has had it's driver Axl Rose simply get out and walk off the track." "Oh gee, looks like there's a wreck going into turn 3."  The number 73 car the Plymouth station wagon, driven by Kevin Cronin has collided with the number 23 car the VW bus being driven by Jerry Garcia." "Now let's check in on our leader the number 33 car a Cadillac hearse driven by Brian Jones." "You know Chuck even though he's carting a number of bodies including the 400 pound body of Jim Morrison his steel wheeled nerve has made this look easy." And will be right back after these words.  @320.....see scans

Genesis WW1 Show #PAN84-2

I was never a big fan of prog, but I'm slowly getting over the whole 1977 punkrock Year Zero thing and I'm checking out bands that I shamefully ignored.  Phil Collins gets a lot of flak, but here's a Westwood One Superstars In Concert show that I ran across on Ebay and digitized  Sound quality is excellent, and I declicked the files one click at a time in Audacity.   I've tracked the commericals so that they can be easily deleted if you don't find them of any interest.

As several of the songs flow into each other without an easily discernible break point, I've left them as uncut files.

This includes a scan of the cue sheet and the disc label.

Oh man, this guy can really play the guitar.
I hadn`t seen the setlist and I enjoyed listening to the show when there suddenly was a surprising break - from Thelonius Beck to the Grateful Dead`s St.Stephen: Fantastic! and then...
One of the best covers of St.Stephen and I shall be released I ever heard...
But: Warren can play them all: from A to Z.
No wonder that the Allman Brothers Band wanted exactly him
to play the 2nd guitar beside Dickey and Derek.

~By Matthew Fiander 1 July 2013
PopMatters Associate Music Editor

Bobby Whitlock is something of a classic rock unsung hero. He was, most famously, a member of Derek & the Dominos, and toured as the backing band for George Harrison after he released All Things Must Pass. Whitlock also played as part of Bonnie and Delaney’s “Friends”. He’s recorded and played with Eric Clapton in these and other ventures, and he’s also recorded with the like of Buddy Guy and others.

So Whitlock, a Tennessee-born musician who got his start on Stax Records recording hand-claps on a Sam & Dave tune, was a rock journeyman, a talented sideman and songwriter tied to some admittedly more famous names. Where There’s a Will There’s a Way looks to shed light on a lesser-known chapter in his journey, as it comprises his two solo albums from 1972—Bobby Whitlock and Raw Velvet—in hopes of deepening our understanding of Whitlock’s musical world by showing him, first and foremost, as a frontman. Considering the other players on these records—both Clapton and Harrison appear, and they’re not alone—it’s safe to say Whitlock had the band to get these songs together and make them shine. But when he first submitted his eponymous debut to his record company with the Dominos, Atlantic, they said no. So Whitlock bought out his contract and moved on.

The Kills was formed by American singer Alison Mosshart and British guitarist Jamie Hince. In 2002 The Kills debuted with the “Black Rooster” EP, released on Domino Records. The duo's debut full-length album, “Keep on Your Mean Side,” was released the following year. The album peaked at #47 on the U.K. Albums chart, while the single "Fried my Little Brains" peaked at #55 on the UK Singles chart.
They followed up with “No Wow” in 2005 which was the first of the group's releases to chart in the United States, peaking at #18 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers Albums chart. “No Wow” also charted in the U.K., Belgium, France, and the Netherlands.
“Midnight Boom,” released in 2008, was again released by Domino. “Midnight Boom” charted in a total of nine countries, including the album's first appearance on the Billboard 200 Albums chart at #133. It also reached #16 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart. The album was preceded with a website, also titled Midnight Boom, dedicated to the videos and multi-tracks for "U.R.A. Fever," "Cheap and Cheerful" and "Last Day of Magic." "Tape Song" and "Black Balloon" served as follow-up singles.
In 2011 they released their fourth LP, “Blood Pressures” which was their first Top 40 album in the U.S., reaching #37 on the Billboard 200. It also went to #40 on the U.K. Albums chart. The album was recorded at Key Club studio in Benton Harbor, Michigan, the same studio where the band had previously recorded both “No Wow” and “Midnight Boom.”

Jimi Hendrix - 1968 Recording Studio Outtakes

1968 Recording Studio Outtakes

The Voodoo Chile Sessions

May,2nd - May,3rd,1968

"Raw session tapes of Jimi Hendrix, Steve Winwood, Jack Casady and Mitch Mitchell live at The Record Plant in NYC performing “Voodoo Chile.” Good sound, though… you’ll need to be prepared for what it’s like to be a fly on the wall in the studio. The first five minutes is engineer Eddie Kramer getting the mic levels and set ups prepared, as the band was already well underway. Later, there are disproportionate levels for some of the studio chatter, along with Kramer punching some of the instruments in and out. But in between all the chaos, you’ll hear some amazing and historic jams that formed the basis for two central tracks from Hendrix’s last studio album, Electric Ladyland. For the following night’s recording of “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return),” it’s Jimi and the original Experience (Mitchell & Noel Redding) learning the new song in the studio as tapes rolled. Listen below to “Voodoo Chile 2,” which includes a few false starts, Hendrix breaking a string and Winwood, Casady & (the incredible) Mitchell continuing to jam until Jimi was ready to go again. Great stuff." by Willards Wormholes

"TTG" stood for "two terrible guys."[1][2][3] The studio was first established in 1965 at 1441 North McCadden Place near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Highland Avenue, in Hollywood section of Los Angeles.[1] Due to its high decibel level threshold, their studio became popular with the up and coming musicians rock musicians of that time, including The Monkees, Eric Burdon,[1] and Alice Cooper.[4] Burdon introduced Jimi Hendrix to the studio and Hendrix "raved" about the studio's sound.[2]

Black Mountain - Live Brooklyn, NY 2008

Black Mountain - Live The Grasslands
May 14, 2008
Brooklyn, NY.
Soundboard @160

After founding Jerk with a Bomb in the late '90s, Stephen McBean had by the mid-2000s transformed the Vancouver-area band into a group called Black Mountain. Drawing on blues, psychedelia, acid rock, and the Velvet Underground, Black Mountain's sound was a cross between the darkness and grit of the Warlocks and Brian Jonestown Massacre's trippiness. After debuting in October 2004 on Jagjaguwar with the 12" Druganaut, Black Mountain stayed with the label for an eponymous full-length, issued the following January. Joining McBean for the album were local players Matthew Camirand, Jeremy Schmidt, Joshua Wells, and Amber Webber, listed collectively to preserve the band's communal ethic. (Black Mountain ran concurrent to and intermingled with McBean's other band, lo-fi classic rockers Pink Mountaintops.) In January 2008, the group releasedtheir sophomore album, In the Future, and showed off their willingness to explore proggy (and druggy) territory with the 17-minute opus "Bright Lights." The group’s third, full length album, Wilderness Heart, arrived in 2010.
