In 1988, Beatnik Beatch added keyboard player Roger Manning, who began writing songs with Sturmer. As they were working on their third album, conflicts over the material led Beatnik Beatch to disband, with Sturmer and Manning leaving to form Jellyfish.
Jellyfish put out two successful power pop albums, both of which were just released in deluxe 2-cd editions on Omnivore Records in January 2015, loaded with bonus tracks.

First things first...where I found this tape: ....my brother's friend Bob taped local shows. Ten years ago, Bob gave my brother a box of his tapes which my brother stored in my mom's attic, I thought it was all "mix tapes" but recently found some of Bob's audience tapes were in there, too. I usually stick to radio broadcasts but Bob recorded some interesting local shows so I'll be digitizing them and posting them here.
So...as the debut Bob the Mailman recording, this is a great sounding tape, well balanced with very clear vocals. There's a minimum of audience noise (although there's a moment where some pal of Bob's leans over and says, "ARE YOU PAUSING IT?" and then announces his need to use the men's room). But other than that...this is a great sounding show!
While this is a Beatnik Beatch concert, there's a LOT of songs that turned up later on Jellyfish albums. "Baby's Coming Back" was a hit single from the 1990 album Spilt Milk, and "Bye Bye Bye" was on 1993's Bellybutton. "Queen of the U.S.A.," "That Girl's A Man," and "Always Be My Girl" were on Fan Club, a 4-cd box set of rare Jellyfish tracks.
I couldn't identify three songs on this tape, which I've marked with question marks....if there's anyone out there in Our Beloved Audience who can positively name the songs, please leave a comment and I'll update the track listing (and thanks in advance).
