Belly - Roskilde Festival 1995 (Now with flac link!)

From The ORIGINAL FBS archives!!

Belly - Roskilde Festival
Roskilde, Denmark
June 29, 1995
FM Source @ 320

Updated to include flac link!

Following several years in Throwing Muses, as well as a brief detour in the Breeders in 1990, Tanya Donelly formed her own band, Belly, in 1992. With Belly, Donelly expanded her dreamy pop hooks into more concise, catchy songs, as well as harder-edged rock. The band's 1993 debut, Star, became one of the first beneficiaries of the commercialization of alternative rock; it rode to gold status within its first year of release, as "Feed the Tree" made headway on mainstream pop radio. Despite their strong start, Belly never became genuine stars, and once their 1995 follow-up, King, bombed, Donelly disbanded the group in 1996.

Set List:
01 – Dusted
02 – Angel
03 – Untitled And Unsung
04 – King
05 – Now They’ll Sleep
06 – Full Moon, Empty Heart
07 – Super-Connected
08 – Feed The Tree

Dino Valenti - Vocals
John Cipollina - Lead Guitar
Gary Duncan - Lead & Rhythm Guitar
David Freiberg - Bass & Vocals
Greg Elmore - Drums
Touring Band Members:
Michael Lewis - Keyboards
Michael Olsen - Bass

Sadly, "Happy Trails" marked the end of an era, and Greil Marcus's glowing review of the album in 'Rolling Stone' was prefaced by the comment that this "would presumably be Quicksilver's last album". Gary Duncan had in fact left the group before the album was completed, and had to be coaxed into returning to complete his work on "Calvary", before leaving again. The reason was Dino Valenti, again freed from prison, and now living in the Mill Valley area. He occasionally sang with the band.

Coco Montoya - Live Jazzbones 2008

Back From The Dead...Again
Originally posted January 30, 2009 and February 24, 2016

Coco Montoya - Live Jazzbones
April 8, 2008
Tacoma, WA.
Soundboard @192

Though he grew up as a drummer and was raised on rock & roll, Coco Montoya became an
outstanding blues guitarist in the '90s after stints in the bands of Albert Collins and John Mayall. Montoya debuted as a leader in 1995 with the Blind Pig album Gotta Mind to Travel and garnered an award for Best New Blues Artist at the following year's Handy Awards ceremonies.
His first album with the Bluesbreakers came in 1985. Mayall had not released an album in five years at that point and the Bluesbreakers had been dead for more than 15, but the live album Behind the Iron Curtain proved Mayall's viability thanks mostly to the fiery work of Montoya. The guitarist appeared on three studio albums with Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, but then struck out on his own by the mid-'90s. Signed to Blind Pig, Montoya released Gotta Mind to Travel in 1995 with help from Mayall and another former Bluesbreaker compatriot, rhythm guitarist Debbie Davies. After years of toil under Collins and Mayall, Montoya was finally in the spotlight and his award as Best New Blues Artist of 1996 proved quite ironic, given his years of experience. His second album, Ya Think I'd Know Better, was followed by 1997's Just Let Go. At that point, Montoya and Blind Pig parted company and he signed with Alligator Records.

Placebo - Glastonbury 1997-98 (?)

Placebo - Glastonbury
Worthy Farm, Pilton, England

Westood One Pre-FM Source @flac

*Original Notes*
I don't know what date this show's from, except that it's not the date it's labelled as ('You Don't Care About Us' wasn't written at the time). I tried looking up info, but there wasn't much either, so we just have to take this tape's word that it's a pre-FM tape for a Westwood One recording. It's very nice audio quality, though, of seven songs from the first two albums.

*My Notes*
Placebo played Glastonbury twice 1997 and 1998. The songs listed here do not match either of the set lists for the dates they played. This may be a compilation of shows from those and other dates and venues. It may not even be a Westwood One show. I've been trying to track down any other info for this show for about about a week now with no luck. I'm done with that so here you go!

Tempest - Live in Sweden 1973

Back From The Dead as requested...
Originally posted May 13, 2012

Tempest - Live in Sweden 1973
FM Source @320 & Flac

Formed by drummer Jon Hiseman in 1974 after the break up of COLOSSEUM, TEMPEST (no relation to the US band of the same name) are most notable for their line up rather than their albums. Hiseman brought in an at the time very young guitarist by the name of Allan Holdsworth, with Mark Clark (bass) and Paul Williams (vocals) completing the band. Clark had also been a member of COLOSSEUM. Paul Williams had played with JOHN MAYALL'S BLUESBREAKERS and JUICY LUCY.

TEMPEST released two albums with Peter "Ollie" Halsall (PATTO, SCAFFOLD) replacing Holdsworth for "Living in Fear", and taking on keyboard duties for that album too. He replaced the departed Williams on vocals, resulting in a completely different sound for that album. Their music is more jazz rock than fusion, and Hiseman's COLOSSEUM influences can be heard in the jazz influences in both albums. While "Living in Fear" was more direct and dynamic than the first self titled album, neither was particularly satisfactory.

Hiseman went on to form COLOSSEUM II, while Holdsworth found varying degrees of success both as a solo artists, and with bands such as GONG, SOFT MACHINE, UK and BRUFORD. The late Ollie Halsall (died 29 May 1992) recorded with BOXER and Kevin Ayers among others. Clarke worked with various bands including NATURAL GAS, URIAH HEEP, MOUNTAIN AND RAINBOW.
