Howling For Hubert
Various Artists` Tribute To Hubert Sumlin
February 24, 2012
Apollo Theater, NY
Excellent Audience Recording@ 224

A great pleasure to the Voodoo Wagon!

A very good friend of the blog sent us the link of this special meeting of Blues aficionados last night. Too bad we don`t have him here on the Wagon as a contributor anymore. Many thanks again for the show!

Eric Clapton, Jimmy Vaughan, Eddy Shaw, Elvis Costello, Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks, Billy Gibbons, Keb Mo,Warren Haynes, Keith Richard, Buddy Guy...they all played at this show in New York City. And it seems they all had a lot of fun!
Not to forget the responding audience too...

A Big Thanks to the producers of this boot! I mean the show is about 10 days young and we have a perfect recording including perfect front and back covers.
This is something only bootleggers can do. Salute!

Patrick Doyle reported in rollingstone.com:
Close to midnight last night at New York’s Apollo Theater, Eric Clapton had just finished a thunderous take on classic blues number “Forty Four” when Keith Richards ambled onstage with no introduction. Wearing a dark blazer, long green scarf, fedora and a huge grin, he embraced Clapton and stood center stage to massive applause, delivering a smoky take on Howlin’ Wolf’s “Going Down Slow,” a chronicle of a frail man who has savored life’s greatest pleasures. “Man, I’ve had things that kings and queens will never have,” Richards growled. “In fact, they don’t even know about them, let alone get ’em. And good times? Mmmm…” He hovered around Clapton and then stood sidestage by the piano while Clapton delivered a throaty verse and then weaved clean-toned solos with young Austin guitarist Gary Clark Jr… It was Richards’ first major musical appearance since the Rolling Stones last toured five years ago, and he showed little rust.

July 30, 1989
Soundboard @flac

Notes From Dime seeder...
Here's my last full-length Buddy / Junior and its a great one taken entirely from a second gen soundboard source. The only thing puzzling about this show is the date. There's a very famous BG / SRV performance from Legends in Chicago on the same date as this. However, Buddy clearly says that it's his birthday while tap dancing around the false Junior introduction in the first set and the show was clearly marked as 1989-07-30 when I received the show back in trade in 1997. So, a bit of controversy while you spend 2.5 hours listening to this great show.

Buddy Guy - Legends, Chicago, Jan. 24, 2008

I've seen Buddy do some strange things--like use a wireless amp to allow him to walk off the stage and out the theater door...still playing with the band onstage, then return...and I've seen him seduce an audience too. Yeah, Buddy just took every woman away from the guy who took her to the show.

He was a wolf--nothing less than going after the flock that was available. I wrote that "The man is after your dinner, and you ain't getting close to the dessert menu, Junior. The platter has been licked clean--I'm not talking about your fine china, son--and you didn't have a bite"
and more in Rock 'n Blues Stew at
