That's what Discogs says... I want to note that it's "principle" not "principal."  :)

I found newspaper articles confirming the date of the concert, and a mention of the Tubes taking part in a benefit baseball game between the WMMS-FM Buzzards and the Will Rogers Celebrity All-Stars.  The All-Stars included Wendy O. Williams from the Plasmatics, Fee Waybill, and Franke from Franke & the Knockouts (who were also the opening act for the Tubes).

Also, one of Our Beloved Readers (hi, G-man!) tipped me to additional Tubes tracks from the recent BBC show being available at: http://livebootlegconcert.blogspot.com

Flac files of wavs, digitized March 2025, 300 dpi scans of two disc labels and cue sheets...plus...PRESS COVERAGE!

First of all, let's address a dating error for this recording that's out there on the Internet.
As is usually the case, the BBC Rock Hour version of the concert is sourced from a BBC release.  The Tubes In Concert 259 was issued by BBC Transcription Services on August 31, 1981 and has a longer version of the concert, with three additional songs (Think About Me, Mondo Bondage, Tubes World Tour)

The Discogs information says, "Recorded live at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, UK July 16, 1981
The recordings were first transmitted on BBC Radio 1, 1981-September-19"

This is contradicted by a comment left on the Discogs listing:

"WRONG !
The show was recorded at Hammersmith on Monday, June 22nd, 1981
FIRST transmitted on BBC Radio 1 on July 16th, 1981..
SECOND transmission on BBC Radio 1 on September 19th, 1981
How do I know ? I was one of the band's crew."

Yeah, that sounds definitive, but we go the EXTRA MILE here at the Voodoo Wagon, or at least the extra kilometer when we're writing about shows in England.  I went and found English newspaper coverage that proves the show was in June, not July, so the comment is thereby demonstrated as a true statement.  Q.E.D.

In looking at the press coverage, I found Tubes singer Fee Waybill arrested during a promotional stunt outside the Virgin Record Shop, and later convicted and fined £50.00 for having been "an arrogant nuisance."

There was an earlier BBC Rock Hour 235 that aired August 30, 1981 with an identical setlist, and that's probably the same show...but it's not confirmed.

A member of Our Beloved Audience (hi, G-man!) pointed out that there are additional Tubes tracks from this show available at:  http://livebootlegconcert.blogspot.com

And another member of Our Beloved Audience pointed out that there was a 14 track release of this in 2003 on HUX RECORDS as "Infomercial: How To Become Tubular."  It looks like this was only released in the United Kingdom, however.  From looking at their releases on Discogs, it looks like they specialize in releasing BBC live shows.

The Tubes - Kabuki Theatre, S.F. Westwood One In Concert #84-13

The Tubes
Kabuki Theatre, San Francisco, CA
Westwood One In Concert #84-14
Airs 7/6 - 7/8 (....in 1984)
most likely recorded on September 17, 1983

This same show was also broadcast earlier in February '84 by Westwood One as In Concert #84-03.  The cue sheet of #84-03 lists Track 31 as "Drums," while on the cue sheet for In Concert 84-14, it's listed as "Baby Hector's Lament." I can't find a song by that name in the Tubes' discography, but as it's on the cue sheet I'm listing is as "Baby Hector's Lament."

A portion of this show was broadcast on MTV, missing the tracks "Amnesia", "Mondo Bondage", "Don't Want To Wait Any More" and the "James Brown Medley," but with the inclusion of "White Punks On Dope" (not on the Westwood One broadcasts).  The "James Brown Medley" isn't listed on the cue sheet, but I've listed it here as part of the track "Tip Of My Tongue."

The first two Budweiser commercials are by A Flock of Seagulls and Joe Jackson, and presumably the third commercial is also by a "name" artist, but I don't recognize the singer or group. Joe Jackson really puts his heart into it, too.  If anyone can identify the group or singer on that third commercial, I'd appreciate it.

Scans of the cue sheet and a disc label are included; flac files of wavs.

01.  Westwood One In Concert 84-14 Intro
02.  Commercial - Schick - Joe Montana
