The Beat, featuring Paul Collins / New George's, San Rafael, CA KRQR-FM

Paul Collins was in the Nerves, one of those fabulously "might have been" groups that was so loaded with talent that it's a pity the industry didn't know what to do with them in 1977.  The Nerves had Peter Case (who went on to be in the Plimsouls and have a successful solo career) and Jack Lee (who wrote "Hanging On The Telephone" for Blondie).  After the break up of the Nerves, Collins founded the Beat, who (unfortunately) are remembered more for being the band that made the British band the Beat be known as the "English Beat" in America.  That's sad, because the (American) Beat was a great, Beatlesque pop-rock band.

If you don't know this band, but enjoy the Power-Pop style, give this a shot; you're likely to enjoy it.
