3 - Live In Boston {1988}

3 - Live In Boston
Live at Paradise Theater
Boston, Massachusetts
April 15, 1988
Excellent FM Broadcast Recording @320

The British/American progressive rock band 3 was a spin off from Emerson, Lake, & Palmer, releasing just one album in 1988 called 'To the Power of Three' produced by Palmer. This release was recorded on the successful tour they undertook to promote the then-new album. During the tour, the band mixed material from the new record with classics from ELP and The Nice.

 Set List:
01. Radio Announcer Introduction
02. Fanfare For The Common Man
03. Deste La Vita
04. Lover To Lover
05. Introductions
06. Hoedown
07. You Do Or You Don't
08. Talkin' Bout
09. Creole Dance
10. On My Way Home
11. Runaway
12. Standing In The Shadows Of Love
13. America Blue Rondo Tocatta Drum Solo Flight Of The Bumblebee
14. Encore Break
15. Eight Miles High
16. Announcer Closing Credits Fades Out

Personnel: Keith Emerson - keyboards, piano :: Robert Berry - bass, guitars, vocals :: Paul Keller- guitar :: Carl Palmer - drums, percussions :: Jennifer Steele - backing vocals.

Poster Notes:
From WBCN FM live broadcast (not pre recorded). A rare club appearance with Keith Emerson. This is the complete show. The encore cut in the master tape so I used another source to get the whole song uninterrupted. This was the only tour of this lineup, promoting their album "The power of three". They can call it three, but this is still a five piece band. So it's really three to the power of five.

Rush - Electric Lady Studios - 1974

Music provided by our friend Drums McBashington!!

Rush - Electric Lady Studios
December 5, 1974
New York, NY.
FM Source @320

Another bootleg recording turned into a CD, this one from a show Rush played in 1974 at Electric Lady studios in New York City. The recording has been floating around for years in an unofficial CD, called 'Rush Hour'  but about two years ago it was repackaged into an unofficial import CD, called Rush - Live at Electric Lady Studios

Rush’s show was on December 5th. The band played its standard set from its first tour: “Finding My Way,” “Best I Can,” “In the Mood,” “Anthem,” “Need Some Love,” “Fly by Night,” “Here Again,” the Larry Williams cover “Bad Boy,” and “Working Man.”
“Here Again” is played at an extremely slow tempo and the applause afterward is tepid. Geddy then says they’re going to speed things up a bit and they go into “Bad Boy.” The set ends with “Working Man” and a Neil solo.
The view of unofficial CDs like this one is always mixed, but the recordings are worth listening to. The sonic quality is raw and the playing is raw. Whether you want to part with $39.99 to buy the CD on Amazon is another matter.

Start - No Direction / Invisible Man - 1981, independently released 45

Start
No Direction / Invisible Man
independently released 45, 1981

In the punk/post-punk era, there were a LOT of self-released singles that didn't find a broader audience, but were solid, tuneful releases.  This is one of them.

The band "Start" only released one record (that I'm aware of...),  and I've digitized my copy for your consideration.  The vinyl was in great shape, and I went through the files and removed most of the clicks n' pops...so this is likely to be the best version of this single that you're going to find.

I included flac files of wavs,  plus MP3@320 files, with 300 dpi scans of the single sleeve, and disc labels.

So...what's it sound like?  There's a bit of The Jam as an influence on the A-side, and a bit of psychedelia on the B-side.  To me, the B-side is the best, as it has a false-ending fade, where it drops the volume down, introduces a phone call from some mysterious corporate (or government) entity, drops in a musical quote from the A-side, and then fades back into the song.

This a very good "lost record" from the era, and I hope you enjoy it.  Fans of the Jam..."power pop," and "new wave" should check it out.
