Allman Brothers Band - Tampa `70

Allman Brothers Band
Tampa,Florida `70

For brother Mitch who used to be posting on the FBS and on the Wagon (and there was another one:The Blue Suede Lounge; do yu still remember?) in the early days of beginning. The hot days! Always very funny,too...
The only reason to give cource for concern is,that I`m afraid he got this boot for a long time already (haha)...

For the ones, who maybe still don`t have this one: Excellent Allman Brothers performance; the rhythm section`s playing cool and groovy, while Duane let his guitar howl.
Beautiful!
And Exciting: It`s the Allman Brothers 1970.

But:
Much too short recording...
(Oh, I forgot: Unknown date of performing)

Updated June 2025.  Flac files of wavs.  I've included scans of the cue sheet, and all four disc labels, plus some newspaper clippings...including some general coverage of Steel Breeze.

Here's one of those Westwood One "In Concert" shows that paired two very different artists with very different audiences.  Steel Breeze was an American rock band from Sacramento and scored some early MTV exposure with "You Don't Want Me Anymore." They're working a hard rock, rock/pop-metal style of music.

Nick Lowe teamed up with England's favorite utility infielder Paul Carrack to round out his "Noise To Go" band for a blast of British pub-rock.  At the time, these two bands would have had two very different audiences.

The vinyl was VG+, but I spent many, many hours pulling off every minor click and pop that I could find, and now it plays like it's a M-. A bit of surface noise on the quiet parts where they talk to the audience but it sounds great.

I've tracked all the commercials and station breaks so you can leave 'em in or delete 'em.

I see that Lowe played the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena a few days earlier with the band named "Nick Lowe & the Chaps."  Announcer Phil Hendrie says the show is Paul Carrack with Nick Lowe & His Noise To Go, but the print ad didn't mention Carrack.

Wall of sound show!
And a terrific "The Other One/Mind Left Body Jam".

"I highly recommend adding this show to your 1973 GRATEFUL DEAD collection.
Well produced and rehearsed the GRATEFUL DEAD set out to conquer their destiny as economic and musical plutocrats. There was no looking back, the "Future" called. Bigger was better, it was the way it was back then. Now it's all in the past. Over in the wink of an eye.
"Time" is the most precious thing in the universe; no matter how much money you have, you cannot buy back one single second of it. But you can record a show and keep it for future generations.
The GRATEFUL DEAD keep the groove in the pocket during this show, Denver got lucky.
I wonder why no other country has ever produced a band like the GRATEFUL DEAD? Who else but the U.S.A. would give people like the GRATEFUL DEAD the freedom to be themselves?"by oh uh um ah at archive.org

Boz Scaggs - Oct. 8, 1997 FM broadcast...

First of all, the sound quality is top-notch. This is from my master copy of the broadcast, recorded on metal bias Maxell MX-S 100 cassettes. I ran two cassettes in a dual deck so there’s no tape flip, and it was a straight shot across San Francisco Bay from the Sutro Tower to my receiver. Great reception. There’s one four-second drop of the right channel on “Sick & Tired,” but that’s due to an engineer messing with the mix and was on the original broadcast.

The concert itself was part of a ten-night stand at the Fillmore. Scaggs was promoting his “Come On Home” album, which had been released earlier in the year. “Come On Home” saw Scaggs returning to his blues roots, tossing in a handful of new originals into an album’s worth of covers of old blues songs. With such a blues based album to promote, it meant that a blast through “Loan Me A Dime” is pretty much required. Sure enough, we get an extended, fifteen minute version.

A few of the disco era white-soul songs get tossed to the crowd like raw meat, but this is mainly Scaggs singing the blues.

Townes Van Zandt - Live Johnson City, TN. 1985

Townes Van Zandt - The Down Home
Johnson City, TN.
April 18, 1985
FM Source @320

John Townes Van Zandt (March 7, 1944 – January 1, 1997), best known as Townes Van Zandt, was an American singer-songwriter. Many of his songs, including "If I Needed You," "To Live is to Fly," and "No Place to Fall" are considered standards of their genre.

While alive, Van Zandt had a small and devoted fanbase, but he never had a successful album or single, and even had difficulty keeping his recordings in print. In 1983, six years after Emmylou Harris had first popularized it, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard covered his song "Pancho and Lefty," scoring a number one hit on the Billboard country music charts. Despite achievements like these, the bulk of his life was spent touring various dive bars, often living in cheap motel rooms, backwoods cabins, and on friends' couches. Van Zandt was notorious for his drug addictions, alcoholism, and his tendency to tell tall tales. When young, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and insulin shock therapy erased much of his long-term memory.

Van Zandt died on New Years Day 1997 from health problems stemming from years of substance abuse. The 2000s saw a resurgence of interest in Van Zandt. During the decade, two books, a documentary film, and a number of magazine articles about the singer were created. Van Zandt's music has been covered by such notable and varied musicians as Bob Dylan, Norah Jones, Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, Cowboy Junkies, Andrew Bird, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch.
