"Thank you, good evening, well it's not really a good evening. I thought it was supposed to be sunny and warm here all the time. Rain wasn't in the contract. Anyway we're gonna play a lot of new stuff for you from the new album in this half and a bunch of old... oldies but goodies later on for you, so if everyone prays a little bit that the weather holds we'll all have a good time."
That's what Dave Gilmour said before diving into Learning To Fly at the Orange Bowl in Miami on November 1,1987. There are fans who feel that Pink Floyd are a lesser band with the absence of Roger Waters, who had left in December 1985. While the solo Waters released Radio KAOS in 1987, Dave Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright released A Momentary Lapse Of Reason in September 1987 (which some fans felt was more of a Gilmour "solo" album).
As Gilmour mentioned, the first half of the show (Disc One) features the live version of A Momentary Lapse Of Reason. If the album was not lauded as a critical album, there was enough fan support for the album and tour for them to be considered commercial successes. For this show, rain or no rain, it is still a strong performance with Gilmour in fine form. Overall, these soundboard tracks are excellent.
