The original concert was broadcast to 67 countries with an audience of 600 million. Performers includes the Farafina Drummers, Stines, George Michael, Arampondo, Eurythmics, the Amabutho Male Chorus, Joe Cocker, Jonathan Butler Freddie Jackson, Ashford & Simpson, Natalie Cole, Al Green, Tracy Chapman, Wet Wet Wet, Midge Ure, Phil Collins, Tony Hadley, Paul Carrack, Fish, Paul Young, Curt Smith, Bryan Adams, the Bee Gees, Salif Keia, Youssou N'Dour, Jackson Browne, Sly & Robbie, Aswad, Mahlathini & the Mahotella Queens, UB40, Chryssie Hynde, Hugh Masakela, Miriam Makeba, Simple Minds, Johnny Marr, Peter Gabriel, Steven van Zandt, Jerry Dammers Whitney Houston, Salt-N-Pepa, Derek B, Stevie Wonder, the Fat Boys, Dire Straits (with Eric Clapton, and Jessye Norman.
