The date of recording on cover is incorrect.

Recorded less than three months before vocalist Ian Curtis committed suicide, Preston 28 February 1980 captures Joy Division's creative gloom in all its glory. Although this live gig features the band's club hits "Transmission" and "She's Lost Control" (but not "Love Will Tear Us Apart" ), it's not your typical concert album. The sound quality is less than pristine, the band's performance is far from perfect, and the gear onstage keeps malfunctioning. Yet Preston 28 February 1980 is truer and has more impact than most live releases, exposing Joy Division's morose melodies, scrambled guitars, brooding beats, and futuristic keyboard squabbles in the group's rawest, most vulnerable form. Joy Division were never about perfection. They flaunted their flaws, reveled in their (and everyone else's) meaninglessness, and sought solace in the idea that control is merely a myth. On February 28, 1980, these foibles become a fascinating mission statement. --Jon Wiederhorn

Derek Trucks w/Susan Tedeschi - "Anyday" (video)

Totally amazing to see how Derek Trucks plays slide guitar this close-up--and this shows some EXTENSIVE footage of him and his technique (just watch the dampening he does on that slide to hold back the sound; he's moving his hand on an angle on the fretboard). And Mrs. Trucks (aka Susan Tedeschi) is a fine lady too; she gives her man some sweet looks there as he's sawing away. (Plus she's mighty nice standing there in that long dress.)

PS: Yonrico Scott absolutely bludgeons the drum kit--just hammers the daylights out of it.
If his set could talk, it would probably be screaming for relief. Pretty scary coming from a man who had heart problems and had to stop playing for a while.
That's Eric Krasno of SoulLive on the other guitar--and that is one bitchin' hot solo he did too.

Why I Hate Christmas - by Maia

I hate Christmas, this miserable, overrated holiday and I hate the way it makes people behave. I hate the shallow, fake little advertisements I see every damn place I go that tell me how by going into endless debt to buy shit for my family and friends I’ll somehow be a better person. I hate the lines in the stores, I hate how the decorations go up mid-October under the guise of “Holiday Spirit.” And I hate the people that buy into that sort of thing. I got news for you–Giant Department Store isn’t throwing up the fake evergreen cause they just can’t wait to go caroling and make cocoa with Aunt Sue. They want your MONEY, you fools!

While we’re on the subject, I really hate people who love Christmas and go all out. I hate how they look at me funny when I say I don’t like the holiday and I don’t celebrate it. I hate how they reminisce about their childhoods like they were made just perfect by whatever shitty toy ended up under the tree when they were six. I hate how watching a bunch of greedy, snot-nosed brats go into a psychotic rage over the sheer magnitude of stuff that their parents throw at them is supposed to make me feel “joyous” and “warm” and “nostalgic,” even though Billy is tackling the cat and gnawing through my goddamn calf to get to his new Nintendo Wii.

I hate how everyone asks for my money at Christmas and tries to guilt me into it.

I hate how everyone remembers poor people and homeless people for two weeks and then promptly forgets about them again.

I hate how the news articles in every goddamn paper are always the same: Nov/Dec: “Buy this shit! Eat this shit! You’re a bad person if you don’t!”
Jan/Feb: “Excise your fat ass and get it out of the debt you’ve shoveled it into!”
Nov/Dec: “But buy this other shit! You need it too!”

I hate how the Christian right won’t shut up about Christmas; how they’ve made the holiday into their own poltical agenda that they shove in my face every chance they get.

I hate HSN and QVC and I hate that out of my measly 14-channel cable selection, I somehow get BOTH of them.

Santa can suck you know what. I HATE CHRISTMAS!

The highlight of this recording is the fine instrumental rendition of Stevie Wonders' "Too High".
