J.J.Cale - 1975-12-31 - Cains Ballroom, OK.

Only if they are dead and gone,we remember that we are badly missing them...

While Cale never got superstar status it was Mark Knopfler and the Dire Straits, who got most commercial success by copying the way J.J. played the guitar.
Eric Clapton covered some Cale songs, but Dire Straits never did.
"Thanks to Eric cutting my songs, it's kept me from having to get a job as a taxi driver."

J.J.Cale bootlegs are very rare,so I decided to upload this well-known 1975 show from the early days of his career.
The Sausalito show involves many songs from the "Naturally" album, one of my all time favourites.
Cool and groovy...

From Discogs - This recording comes from an FM radio broadcast of Cale's New Year's Eve performance in 1975, at Cain's Ballroom in the town in which he was raised, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Featuring a majestic set of J.J. Cale favorites taken from the albums he had released by this juncture in his career, along with a couple of cuts which at the time had yet to grace a J.J. studio record, all performed in an extended format, radically different from the album versions. This recording illustrates perfectly where J.J. Cale was musically by the end of 1975 and shows the direction in which he was moving for the next phase of his marvelous career.

J.J. Cale - 1975-12-31 - Cain`s Ballroom - Tulsa,OK

J.J. Cale
1975-12-31
Cain`s Ballroom
Tulsa,OK

That`s a funny thing. The same show, the same date, but 2 different venues and the copys also got different speed.
One of them is the right one and one must be a speed corrected one.
And: This copy has 2 more songs."Got My Mojo Working and "Bringing It Back."

All in all I prefer Tulsa to be the real venue.
Cale did come from Tulsa,so the chance is good that he spent New Year`s Eve at his hometown.
But I`m still not sure.

If there´s someone out there who maybe visited the show we`d appreciate to get some more information about it.

As far as we don`t know exactly where this show in fact has been performed, it`s up to you...

PS: Although this is the one with the lower mb, it probably has the better sound quality...

J.J. Cale - R.I.P.

J.J. Cale & Leon Russell at the Paradise Studios, LA 1979

J.J. Cale, the songwriter behind Eric Clapton classics such as “Cocaine” and “After Midnight,” died Friday at the age of 74.
The singer-songwriter's official website confirmed Cale passed away at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla after suffering a heart attack Friday night.
Born John Weldon Cale in Oklahoma City, he’s revered for pioneering the “Tulsa Sound,” a blend of rockabilly, country, jazz and blues.
