Eddie Boyd and His Blues Band -1967

Eddie Boyd and His Blues Band
Featuring Peter Green

Studio Recordings @256
Out of Print

This album from the late 60's features Eddie Boyd backed by some of the best British blues musicians of the time. Peter Green and Tony McPhee on guitar;John Mayall on harp;John McVie on bass; and Ansley Dunbar on the drums. Basically the Mayall band of the time. Boyd later went on to cut some tunes with Fleetwood Mac. Peter Green was much more bluesy than any of his peers at this stage in the British Blues Boom years. This is hardly just piano music. If you are a BLUES fan- this is very special music from E. Boyd. Just give a listen to "The Train is Comin" (Clapton at this time had lost his feel for this kind of blues and Green gives a lesson) -"Blue Coat Man "- a jump blues number is sweeter than honey- "Ain't Doin Too Bad " - THIS is the definative version of this tune, it just grooves along and Pete is in his element. Don't forget "Too Bad " parts 1 & 2 and "The Big Bell ". Peter Green is well represented here. A solid set of Chicago blues!

Track List:
1. Too Bad Part. 1
2. Dust My Broom

Soup - "!" (EP) and "Salley's Sister" (video)

A hail-and-farewell to my friends from Soup:  this was an EP release (with just "!" for a title), and one song ("Light The Candle") paying tribute to their first accordion player, who died from cancer.  It was more than ironic that a childhood friend, Drew Margolius, became available afterward as an accordion player.
This also has the video of "Salley's Sister" from their 2008 reunion show in Atlanta.  (It seems that one chick was doing a few of the boys without each guy knowing it!)

1.  Light the Candle
2.  My Life (is complete)
3.  Driving Home
4.  Never From My Heart
5.  Where Are You Now

Sigur Rós - Museum of Modern Arts, New York, July 7, 2008

(Just a vote of support for the people of Iceland in the aftermath of the volcanic activity and disruption of their lives.  I once considered reenlisting in the navy just for the chance to see the similarities between the Aleutian Islands and Iceland.  And there is still an active volcano, Great Sitkin, sitting 20+ miles from my old duty station.  We knew if that thing blew, we would be exterminated in minutes.)

Super Exclusive Voodoo Wagon Post For A Limited Time @ 224 Kbps

I did this once before over at the BOOT. Here's a little something that is out right now (and on many sites) but not in this incarnation. This is one reason you should purchase a Rapidshare account from us. The wait time between downloads may exclude you from getting all 3 disc's of this masterpiece. I haven't decided how long I'm gonna leave this up for. It's not gonna be long though. This comes from my personal collection. Yeah I forked out the 60 dollars for it. This is the album that made Jobe what he was (back in the day.) OK now for your clues as to what it is..1.Soon after this album was made, the guitar player would have to go to the rehab center and check the singer out so's they could work on the follow-up album. 2. These guys are back together again (at least the one's that are still alive) 3. They blew all the advance money for this album on drugs. 4. Very few gigs were played after this album came out. *DISCLAIMER*
Since this is a "legit release" there is no artwork or song titles (the titles are in the files though.)
SO REMEMBER A LIMITED TIME ONLY.

You have heard that the Iguana (yes, that's how he got his nickname) is also endowed with ten inches, yes?  (I don't care to convert that to metric, but you get the idea, right?) No? You never heard that?
Well, where in hell did you get your education?  On a blogsite?

Oh. Playboy.  I see.  Well, yes, it was instructional in more ways than one, I suppose.  Well, yes, it is indeed found in executive washrooms in America.  Well spoken, my boy!
Well, yes, now that you've asked, that's true about James, Jr., and his
junior--well, maybe senior member--but that's for another lesson.

Soup - A Tour of Two Cities, 1999 (OOP)

(I still think the world of these guys; I saw them in the Mercury Lounge in Greenwich Village one year, and then in Atlanta for a reunion.  They were indie before the rest of the world caught on to the idea.)

Bram Bessoff, their drummer, is a terrific percussionist and media manager; Kevin Crow plays a semi-acoustic 7-string Ovation; Drew Margolius could whoop it up on harmonica as well as John Popper--and handle an accordion (!); Erik Rowan has a voice made for lead--and a great rhythm guitar player, and Lee Adkins is a dangerous man on bass.

They fell victim to the biggest threat in music:  being overlooked by
"the suits."  This shows them at their best: in front of a crowd at the now-extinct Wetlands in New York and the Cotton Club in Atlanta.)
They're back on the scene now as the Soup Jam Band.

Don Cherry - Radio Sessions 1965-1971

Don Cherry - Scandinavian Radio
Sessions 1965-1971

Broadcast recordings @320

pass = fbsvw

Don (Donald Eugene) Cherry (November 18, 1936 – October 19, 1995) was an innovative jazz trumpeter whose career began with a long association with saxophonist Ornette Coleman, and who would go on to live and work with a wide variety of musicians in many parts of the world. Cherry incorporated influences of Middle Eastern, traditional African, and Indian music into his playing
Other playing opportunities in his career came with Carla Bley's Escalator Over The Hill project and recordings with Lou Reed, Ian Dury, Rip Rig & Panic and Sun Ra.
Don Cherry was closely associated with the Pocket trumpet, a smaller version of the regular trumpet. Closer to a cornet, the pocket trumpet helped Cherry produce his distinct sound as well as allowing him to "smear" notes due to its idiosyncratic slotting. He often spoke about changing horns and mouthpiece sizes to constantly keep him in unfamiliar territory when playing and aiding in the avoidance of cliches.

These recordings are probably not for the casual jazz fan. This is NOT the smooth jazz you hear on the radio or while visiting the dentist.

The Clash - Amsterdam, May 10, 1981

The Clash
Amsterdam (Jaap Edenhal)
May 10, 1981
Impossible Mission Tour
FM Radio Recording

Dutch radio recorded the concert and broadcast seven songs. The songs chosen reflect the major musical changes happening in the band with a run of 3 lengthy Clash rap/funk songs; Lightning Strikes, Radio Clash and Magnificent Seven sandwiched between more traditional Clash fare of London Calling, White Man in Hammersmith Palais, Bankrobber and I Fought The Law.

There are 3 circulating versions of this source. The original 7-song source has marginally better sound than the 8-song source found on the end of Stockholm’s Burning (and on the end of the full audience source). The 8th song is One More Time with markedly poorer sound but from the soundboard radio source, suggesting that the rest of the concert may circulate from this source one day.

The radio station mix has Mick’s guitar in the left channel and Joe’s in the right, with vocals, bass and drums centered. A highly enjoyable sound reflecting the move away from the lead guitar dominance of the concert sound mix in 1980 (especially the May/June dates) to the pared down lead guitar sound and greater prominence of the rhythm section and vocals on this tour.

1. London Calling
2. (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais
3. Lightning Strikes (Not Once But Twice)
4. Radio Clash
5. The Magnificent Seven
6. Bankrobber
7. I Fought The Law
8. One More Time

Michael Burks

Burks' down and dirty guitar screams and wails on every cut...driving crossover blues-rock executed with dexterity and panache...topped with large dollops of sweat and grit. Burks' fiery guitar and larger-than-life stage presence can drive a festival crowd into a lather. When you see Michael Burks on stage, it's hard not to compare him to certain blues masters but make no mistake, Burks is his own bluesman. Hard-hitting blues, outrageous tone...blazing, explosive solos skills...no watered-down blues here, Burks' [music] is full of soul and passion. His vocals possess the rich soulfulness of B.B. and rival his stinging guitar work as his greatest talent. There's a confidence to Burks' playing and singing that suggests he deserves to fill the void left in the electric Chicago blues field by the passing of Luther Allison, Albert Collins, and Albert King.~Blues Revue

They don't call this guy the "Iron Man" for nothing. Saw him play last weekend and I'm still picking up pieces of my face. Mike can cut heads with the best of them! Check out his music if you haven't already!

Black Fiction - The Daytrotter Sessions 2007

Black Fiction - The Daytrotter Sessions
July 4, 2007

Studio Soundboard Recordings @128

San Francisco's Black Fiction makes music that could, if it wanted to, keep at least one foot in the backyard of sanity, but as we do when the nights close in, it can't help what the dreaming eyes or the wretched ones see when there's a choice to be had. The songs on last year's impossibly fantastic Ghost Ride were laden with the bumps in the night, spacey beats and lead singer Tim Cohen's magical and fascinating voice and lyrics, which could hold hundreds of different meanings in their vast catacombs full of question marks and ellipses. It's not unfathomable that it was written and treated in the throes of insomnia-induced episodes of suspended reality, where the head feels unhinged and the things that come out of its top, the ears, the eyes and the mouth are all examples of corralled dementia. There are mysteries and unexplainable potions at work and Cohen favors making the most potent concoctions the most attractive and aromatic. ~Sean Moeller
