While checking old DVDs stuff for a better version of a John Campbell show this Robert Palmer set reminded me that an audio-version of it, prepared for being posted here, waited way too long for its chance ...
So: Double feature (V)ideo & (A)udio FLAC.
I would've prefered a set with the Little Feat (any boot out there on that?) but, hey, this 1979 set is also fun and kinda near my fav Palmer records

Note:
- Thank you Sivad (Original Taper) on following through with my request and providing me with this show.
- I originally received this show from Sivad as a single wave file therefore CD Wave was use to split the tracks.
- I'm not an expert so keep that in mind when hearing the tracking specially between (05 and 06 + 09 and 10), Betty goes from one song to the next a la Miles Davis.
- For the purist: Besides the tracking nothing else was done to the original received wave file. I leave it to the experts to remaster as they wish.
- I can't make the title of track: 02 and 09. I believe they are just instrumental, after careful listening to her albums none of theses appeared.
- There seems to be a fade out after Track 08. before track 09 maybe the result of a tape flip. I do not know if any music is missing between these two.
- From the liner notes of "Is it Love Or Desire " this show is believe to be one of the last if not the last time the band played together.
- In the above referenced torrent (comments section) fellow Dimer Stonethecrow provide us with an unreleased picture of this show (Thank you)
published on a now dead French revue : "Musiq" December 2007. I have included that picture in this torrent.
- In the above referenced torrent (comments section) Sivad comment the following:
" A bit of first-hand information on this one, as I've been lucky enough to attend this three-day outdoor event that was held at the Paul Ricard racetrack in Le Castellet (south of France) where, if I remember well, the previous week-end legendary Canadian driver Gilles Villeneuve on Ferrari had won the French Formula One Grand Prix. The festival was called “Riviera '76” and the main reason for me to get there was that Miles had to play the 'only European concert' of that year. Of course, he didn't show up 'cos he had just begun his infamous five-year sabbatical, but nobody knew it at that time, not even Miles himself, I believe. The stage announcer said that, because of a sudden illness Miles couldn't be there and he sent his former wife to replace him. I only knew vaguely about Betty Davis, but that night (July 1st, 1976) all of us found out what a blast she was! For the chronicle, other artists who performed at the festival were: John McLaughlin's Shakti, Airto Moreira (solo performance), Pat Martino (terrific), Tony Williams & Lenny White (with Brian Auger) Larry Coryell, Joe Cocker (who was too drunk to sing, sadly), Stuff (in my view one of the greatest bands of all time), it is not the complete set. I recorded with my trusty Nakamichi 550 the main acts, and at least half a dozen cassettes of that event still survive, Betty Davis included. One day I hope to find the time to make digital transfers of all the stuff I have recorded in the old days and put some of it on the web for all to share."

Betty Davis was a model and she knew musicians such as Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone. While her marriage to Miles Davis lasted only a year, she is better known as Miles’s second wife and credited with introducing Miles to Hendrix.
In his Autobiography, Miles said: “Betty was a big influence on my personal life as well as my musical life. She introduced me to the music of Jimi Hendrix - and to Jimi Hendrix himself - and other black rock music and musicians. She knew Sly Stone and all those guys, and she was great herself. If Betty were singing today, she’d be something like Madonna; something like Prince, only as a woman. She was the beginning of all that when she was singing as Betty Davis. She was just ahead of her time.”
It was the ’70s and on stage, she was flaunting her sexuality long before Madonna and Prince would in later years. Her backing band would include members from Santana (Neal Schon) Sly & The Family Stone (Gregg Errico) and The Pointer Sisters.

Bob Dylan - Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's Bob Dylan
As a first step....let me direct your attention to Bob's Boots, located at: http://www.bobsboots.com/CDs/cd-n13.html
While Bob's Boots hasn't been updated in ages, it's still a great resource when it comes to the "silver disc" age of bootlegs.
That link has all the tracks listed for you. The show is from Cardiff International Arena, Wales Oct. 3, 1997, plus a plethora of bonus tracks from all over the place.
While Bob's Boots author didn't like the "cheaply done cover," it's one of the things I like the most about this bootleg. The show itself is a good quality audience tape. Mr. Dylan is in "growly gravel voice" mode. There's some background chatter from the audience....I don't normal post audience tapes....but....
I love the cover so much that I'm going to see if I can have it made into a t-shirt. I figure someone else out there in our Beloved Audience might find this show of interest....so here you go. Consider yourself warned: this one doesn't have the DRaftervoi Seal of Great Sound Approval sticker on it.
300 dpi scans of all the cd collateral, including the discs, flac files of wavs.

Probably an Australian release, back cover features a naked female torso holding a big piece of watermelon. I haven't heard any other release from this with clearer and better source, I know there exist 2 different versions of this on LP and one on CD.
The one I have is a vinyl and in great condition, I just played it through couple of times during the years when I made copies of it. The hiss level with pops and clicks on the vinyl is not disturbing the great live feeling of this record.
This boot is one of my favorites with early Elvis Costello, Waiting till the end of the world "Steve Nieve" superb:) & Lipstick vogue, really great rough version.

*Notes*
Shawn Lane (1963-2003) had insisted that he record what would become "Powers Of Ten" by himself and his label agreed, so armed with a sizable equipment budget he purchased an entire multitrack recording set up (in the pre ProTools days) and sometime in 1990 installed himself in the conference room of Memphis' Kiva Studios. What you hear are preliminary mixes of compositions that would make up the bulk of "Powers Of Ten", plus one track from Shawn's other solo studio effort, "The Tri-Tone Fascination". Several tracks' titles were unknown by your humble servant as they didn't make commercial release, these tracks are interesting in that context as they represent musical directions Shawn himself felt for whatever reason didn't merit a public audience. Also included are snippets of Shawn playing solos of various styles, showing his enormous diversity of musicianship. Lastly included is "Stratosphere II", an unaccompanied solo piece he had recorded for Shrapnel Records' (long out of print) compilation "US Metal Volume IV".

November 7, 2006
FM Source @192
Crafting a mystical indie-rock sound that drew comparisons to Kate Bush and Björk, Bat for Lashes is the project of Natasha Khan. Born into the Khan family of squash players -- which included her father Rahmat and her grandfather Nasrullah -- the half-Pakistani, half-English singer/songwriter moved to Hertfordshire, England when she was five and taught herself to play piano when she was 11. She conceived of Bat for Lashes while on a trip to San Francisco, drawing on inspirations like Steve Reich and Susan Hiller, as well as the multimedia installations she learned to create while studying art at the University of Brighton. She continued to work on her music as she studied childcare and taught at a nursery school, ultimately releasing Bat for Lashes' debut single "The Wizard" early in 2006. Her acclaimed debut album, Fur and Gold, arrived that September and was shortlisted for the 2007 Mercury Prize; the following year, she earned nominations for British Breakthrough Act and British Female Solo Artist at the Brit Awards.

(From the Zappateers site)
Here it is: 1/24th of "The History and Collected Improvisations of the MOI."
THE STORY OF THE ACQUISITION: A firsthand account from my source ...
So I get a call from the widow of the great artist, Neon Park. She says, "I've been going through Marty's stuff (Neon's real name was Marty) and I have a lot of records of his. I was talking to (mutual friend) Betzy and she said you like records. Do you want them?" and, being the vinyl hound I am, I said, "You bet! I'll take 'em all sight unseen." She said, "Okay, I'll go pull the can back in from the street." She had had them all in a trash can waiting for the Sanitation Engineers to pick them up.
Now I know Neon worked for many years doing album art for Warner Brothers (best known for Zappa's WEASELS RIPPED MY FLESH and his string of covers for LITTLE FEAT) and was on their mailing list for new releases. Upon going through the LPs from the trash bin I found the usual assortment of product, some good, some not to my liking.
But then...
In an envelope addressed to Mr. Frank Zappa at his Laurel Canyon address, I found three studio acetate test recordings: a early ELO LP, a copy of Jean-Luc Ponty's Zappa tribute LP, KING KONG, and a curious disc labeled "The Weasel Music". Suspecting that this might indeed BE SOMETHING, I cautiously played it once. It seemed to be a live recording of the Mothers goofing around on stage doing what I guessed to be a mock-ballet. While light pseudo-classical piano arpeggios play (Ian Underwood?) you can hear the shuffling of feet and various antics while the crowd respond with laughter and amusement. I would imagine that it was mostly a visual presentation as opposed to an essential Zappa musical composition.
I kept this relic in good condition, still in its original envelope and cardboards. I lent it to my new friend and Zappaphile, Krel, when I moved to Little Rock. He has played it only twice, recording it both times.
So there you go.

Al Stewart - Big Pack
Sometimes you're between pure joy - and sheer panic someone could destroy your beloved memories. In this case: my 2nd wife listening to a radio announcement, Al Stewart on the way to give a special concert in our region, at a very fine location by candle light, only 300 tickets available ... "Dear, do you think we should go there?"
Well, good question. Is it a good idea to go 30 years after "Year of the Cat" to an Al Stewart show, always that wonderful (while made by Alan Parsons) record in mind? Expecting to be disappointed by maybe an old fart milking the dead horse to pay his rent?
![]() |
| the announced location |
First - and last - disspointment in this case: There were too many folks with the same idea, so the location had to change to a not so romantic place and setting. Arriving at a school building, entering the aula, 600 people in the room ... our hearts sank rapidly. But then the man entered the stage and it didn't took a minute for him to comfort them with pure joy.
What a great entertainer who doesn't need the perfect production of Alan Parsons, just him and another acoustic guitar, played by Dave Nachmanoff. Pure fun to see them both on stage. More fun: leaving the room after the show, we found Al sitting outside on a desk, signing records ie. One guy had his complete LP-collection with him and while signing every one of them, Al shared his memories on every piece ("Hey, I asked Roger Waters for his car to shoot the picture for the cover ...").
So I did what I'm really not used to: I purchased a DVD and asked for an autogram ... This is the rip of that DVD and that's the cover

As is usual with Westwood One, the broadcast was edited down from a longer set list.
According to Setlists.com, the original set list was:
The Dream
Tuesday Afternoon
Eternity Road
Gypsy
The Actor (not on this broadcast)
Steppin' in a Slide Zone
New Horizons (not on this broadcast)
I Know You're Out There Somewhere
The Story in Your Eyes
Your Wildest Dreams
The Other Side of Life
I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band) this and "Nights" have been reversed)
Nights in White Satin (swapped with "Singer")
Legend of a Mind (not on this broadcast)
Question
Ride My See-Saw
Westwood One did two more broadcasts based on the San Diego 1994 tracks:
Superstars In Concert #95-31 - drops "The Dream" and adds "The Actor."
Superstars In Concert #96-25 - drops "The Dream and "The Other Side Of Life" and adds "The Actor" and "Legend of a Mind."
Westwood One also broadcast four tracks (Gypsy, Steppin' In The Slide Zone, I'm Just A Singer, and Question) as part of a compilation show (with tracks from Oxford 1987) as shows #97-23, 02-39, 04-09, 06-09, 07-30, and 09-10.
The 95-31 version of the show was likely the source for the 1995 silver disc bootleg Starlight Sojourn, issued in Germany on the Ride The Tiger label as RTT 020, as the set list matches exactly.
The Starlight Bowl was quite the place at one time....
....but has fallen on hard times....
....from what I read on the Internet, it's in the flight path for the San Diego airport....which goes a long way toward explaining why it's closed and deteriorating these days.

The Starlight Bowl was quite the place at one time........but has fallen on hard times....
....from what I read on the Internet, it's in the flight path for the San Diego airport....which goes a long way toward explaining why it's closed and deteriorating these days.
