Lonnie Mack was something - in his day - Twice!
First, back in the 60's, he had an Instrumental Hit record - And it was so instrumental - there's a part of the guitar named after the single!
The song was called Wham! and the tremolo bar has been forever known as "The Whammy Bar."
Then in the mid 80's Lonnie produced some Excellent Blues Rock! One of his biggest fans (besides Me) was a fellow with the initials SRV! In fact, SRV co-produced the album that several of the songs on this Live performance are from.
Now, I have to tell the whole truth - I'm a bit biased when it comes to Lonnie Mack - 'Cause He and I were born in the same place...South-Eastern Indiana.
Dearborn County to be exact...Along the banks of the Ohio River.
(According to my mother, her Doctor. - while she was carrying me - "Paging Dr. Baker" - his office was in Aurora, IN) and Aurora was were Lonnie grew up ...And I (and probably Mr. Mack) were born at the Dearborn County Hospital.
Nevertheless, Even if that weren't the case - I'd still dig his blues rock!
Apparently Keef & Woody were fans as well!
Also, There's This:
"Between the era of Chuck Berry and the era of Hendrix there were a handful of guitar players like Lonnie Mack who were making ground-breaking music... People like Dickey Betts and Stevie Ray Vaughan would tell you that without Lonnie they wouldn’t be who they were. That goes for all of us."
Warren Haynes
This is an Excellent SBD Recording from all the way up in New York City!
