Elvis Costello - This Is Tomorrow - Royalty Theatre, London - Nov. 23, 1986

First of all, I feel like a sh*tbag douche that I'm raining on Jobe's Bowie post, but this place is an anarchy and sometimes it happens...normally I'd wait a day and post it tomorrow but it turns out that my former drummer is giving a public lecture on Soul Music at a local arts collective, and I plan to turn up, (hopefully draggin' my daughter along, who has recently discovered she loves Arthur Alexander's "Every Day I Have To Cry Some" 45)...so I have to pull the trigger now.

Hey, Jobe...sorry, man...I'll defo check out the Bowie....

Elvis Costello & The Attractions
November 23, 1986
Royalty Theatre, London, England
Sourced from BBC transcription discs.

Recorded for broadcast by the BBC. Complete show, though some tracks were reordered to make two 60-minute discs. (The true running order was: Accidents Will Happen - The Beat, Tokyo Storm Warning - Blue Chair, Jack Of All Parades - Clubland, I Want You - Leave My Kitten Alone, Oliver's Army - Poor Napoleon).

The booklet is a "tri-fold" that's longer than my scanner,
so I've left the third panel as a separate scan.

This is flac files of wavs, plus a 300 dpi scan of the
paperwork and disc labels.

Anyway...are you folks interested in more of these Elvis Costello silver CDS?  I've got a stack of 'em down in the basement and I'd be happy to convert 'em to flac and scan the packaging...my schtick has been producing archival copies of syndicated radio shows, but my darned sound card input has gone screwy, so I'm saving up the $$$ to buy a NAD PP4 Digital Phono USB Preamplifier so I can run my turntable directly into my computer (hey, I can put it on the MasterCard and get it tomorrow, but I have strict budgeting rules about my music hobby....).  Anyway...you folks want more of Costello boot CDs?  Let me know.... I'd be happy to convert 'em, if you're interested....  And yes, this particular show has excellent sound quality, just in case you were wondering...

Erasure / The Dome, Brighton, U.K. counterfeit BBC In Concert LP

Erasure
The Dome, Brighton, England
1987

Matrix / Runout (A-side label): 158207-1
Matrix / Runout (B-side label): 158208-2

01. BBC Intro - Richard Skinner
02. Victim of Love
03. It Doesn't Have To Be
04. Don't Dance
05. Who Needs Love (Like That)
06. Leave Me To Bleed
07. Oh, L'Amour
08. The Circus
09. Say What
10. If I Could
11. Sometimes
12. Spiralling
13. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!
14. Push Me Shove Me

This is the bootleg version of BBC In Concert #410.
The record label is black ink, instead of the green and black of the real record.

According to Discogs, the true matrix numbers end in -S instead of -1 and -2.

The sound quality is great on the main songs, but a little bit scratchy on the quiet parts between the songs.  You're not likely to notice it if played on a stereo, but you'll hear it on headphones.

As usual, flac files of wavs.  No cue sheet.  300 dpi scan of the disc labels.

The music?  Oh, yeah, I forgot.  Bouncy 80s synthpop by Vince Clarke (formerly of Yazoo and Depeche Mode) and singer Andy Bell.  Great stuff!  I'm not sure which one of 'em is doing the announcing between the songs, but they remind me of Ruby Rhod from The Fifth Element. "Oh, L'Amour" is my favorite track here!

Catatonia / BBC In Concert #753

Catatonia
BBC In Concert # 753

01.  Applause (faded in)
02.  International Velvet
03.  I Am The Mob
04.  Game On
05.  You've Got A Lot To Answer For
06.  No Stone Unturned
07.  Way Beyond Blue
08.  Don't Need The Sunshine
09.  Goldfish And Paracetamol
10.  Mulder And Scully
11.  Babapapa
12.  Road Rage
13.  Jump Or Be Sane
14.  Bleed
15.  Strange Glue

The cue sheet for this is missing.  I've included scans at 300 dpi of the CD disc, the front and back covers, and a track listing that came with the CD.  I don't know if the track listing is official, but as it says "For full details see cue sheet"  it's likely it was.  Flac files of wavs, digitized from the original CD.

There's no date for the recording, but it's likely from 1998, as the bulk of the songs are from Catatonia's 1998 album,"International Velvet," and the CD has "June 1998 034" stamped in the center of the disc.

The first track is just a few seconds of audience applause and would be better merged with the first song, but as I'm going for an "archival" duplication of the original release, I've left it as it is.

If you're not familiar with the band, they're Welsh, worked in the Brit-pop style popular in the 1990s, and the lead singer, Cerys Matthews, has a great voice.

The Alarm - Hammersmith Odeon December 1985 BBC In Concert Transcription #372

I ran across this BBC Transcription disc in a used record shop.  I've seen a few of these on Ebay but the prices are usually way out of my price range, often over a hundred dollars (today there's a UB40 concert for $137.24, Michelle Shocked for $125.00....).  Because of those high starting prices I've stuck to the American releases on the London Wavelength shows, which are often drop a song or two to make room for advertising.

While this record wasn't cheap, it was reasonably priced for a radio disc and in good shape so I get to tackle a project that's usually too much for my limited budget.  There was no cue sheet, but I've included a 300 dpi scan of the disc.

The Alarm
Hammersmith Odeon
likely recording date is December 1985.

The Alarm played two shows at the Hammersmith Odeon on December 15 and 16.  I don't know which date was the source for this show.

Digitized directly from BBC Transcription #372 (issued in 1986).  No cue sheet, but I've included a scan of the disc label.  I cleaned up any clicks or pops in Audacity.

FLAC files of wavs....

01.  BBC In Concert Transcription #372 Intro - Richard Skinner
02.  Marching On
03.  The Chant Has Just Begun
04.  Deeside
05.  Dawn Chorus

07.  Knife Edge
08.  Third Light
09.  Walk Forever By My Side
10.  Blaze of Glory
11.  Sixty Eight Guns
12.  The Deceiver
13.  Where Were You Hiding When The Storm Broke?
