Originally digitized in 2013.  This version was declicked a second time in December 2021, the files were retagged, and liner notes updated.  As of August 2023, I added the cue sheets to the download.

The broadcast date printed on the KBFH syndicated discs says April 5, 1981.  This date often shows on the Internet as the date of the concert, but I think that's in error.  Wolfgang's Vault has the show up with the April date, which perpetuates the mistake.  KBFH records the shows well in advance of the broadcast date.  KBFH did not record the show, press up the records, and distribute them to hundreds of radio stations on the same day as the show.

Setlists.com also lists the April 5 date, but there are no other concerts near it, except for an appearance at the Bammies (Bay Area Music Awards).  Boz was not on tour in 1980, and it's not likely he would have done a single stand-alone show in New York City just for this broadcast.

The show was recorded on November 26, 1980.  I've included a ticket stub from the November show, plus a newspaper listing.

The streaming audio version does NOT include "Middle Man," which was on the original broadcast discs.

I cleaned the discs with Titebond II wood glue and then went through it on Audacity and declicked the show. I went through the files a second time in December 2021 and did some more clean-up.  The sound quality is top-notch, the drums really snap, the two background vocalists are well-defined.

I've tracked all the commercials and KBFH breaks so they can be left out if they're of no interest. 

There's one "star turn" where Dave Mason does a pretty heartwarming commercial for Miller Beer that may be of interest to Dave Mason completists. He really "sells" the commercial.

Okay....so Jobe opens up  the weekend with Boz, and that reminds me I need to take a look at my Boz folder...and sure enough, there's a show I transferred from cassette tape but never posted here at the the Voodoo Wagon.  I got this from a guy in Tokyo...(Hi, Masanori!).  He recorded the television broadcast on his VHS recorder, and my cassette is sourced from his VHS tape.  Sound quality is good.

As we've got a Boz picture below, I'll go with the concert hall.  Here's the NHK Hall...it's not much to look at, but WIKI tells me the acoustics were designed by Nagata Acoustics.  They've helped design concert halls all over the world.  I'm not sure if it's their design, or Boz's sound man, but the show sounds good.

Okay, so yesterday a very attractive early to mid twenties woman walks into the building I am supposedly safeguarding wearing a Pantera shirt. (I wasn't looking at that part of her anatomy....well maybe a little) I've seen her before and she's always wearing some kind of metal band t-shirt. I said to her "So you're a metal-head" to which she replied "Yea I am" I said "Whenever I see you, you're always wearing a metal shirt, last time it was.....I was dumbfounded. She bailed me out by saying "It was probably Slipknot" I told her "I am an old school metal-head, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath" to which she said "I like them too." She then went on her way. But this got me to thinking, man I really couldn't come up with any more "Old School" metal bands. With the exception (maybe) of Black Sabbath, what and when did the term "Heavy Metal" really come into existence? I know Steppenwolf supposedly coined the phrase but you can't consider them heavy-metal. And really, let's face it Deep Purple weren't heavy-metal. Back then I guess it was called "Hard Rock" I punched up a search for heavy metal albums from 1972/73 and these were the results. Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Budgie, Jimi Hendrix, Alice Coope. Then from 73 the first five were Black Sabbath, Budgie, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple. I never have considered Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Budgie or Hendrix "Heavy-Metal." When you think about it maybe the first real "heavy-metal"album is Blue Cheer's Vincebus Eruptum. After that it seems like it all falls back to the term "Hard Rock" Now don't get me wrong every Slipknot, Korn, Tool, Metallica, A Perfect Circle...this goes on to infinity, owes a huge debt to the MC5, Deep Purple, Budgie, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, but of course all these "new" metal bands crawl and hide and say "mommy tell me when it's over" compared to The Stooges Raw Power, to which no new metal bands have compared to James Willamson's guitar riff-age.It's a shame that Pantera t-shirt girl and her ilk will never hear Iggy, The Mc5, Blue Cheer, and just know the "hits" of the other mentioned bands. You know I don't post a lot of that new metal here cause personally I think it sucks. So now to the point that leads me to this editorial, Honey (with the Pantera shirt) I know you'll never see this (shit do 20 to 30's even know what a blog is?) so when you and your boyfriend are getting ready to slam on Saturday night, might I suggest that maybe you put Funhouse on. Then when you get to be my age and you want to enjoy the events of a Saturday night might I also suggest you put on (along with your thong) the above Mr. Scaggs. The shows I posted were from master cassettes taped off the radio, or syndicated radio discs I digitized.  I'm starting to share tapes I received in trade.  They're not masters, they're got some hiss.  I'll make sure to mention this in the blog post so you know what you're getting.

I got this in a swap with a trader in Tokyo. There's a shorter edit of the concert up on YouTube in higher quality.  There's a bootleg DVD of that show (which is the source of the picture over there on right)  My digitization has a bit of hiss, and the high end sounds a bit dull on my stereo. I think it's of high enough quality to share....let me know what you think.

First of all, the sound quality is top-notch. This is from my master copy of the broadcast, recorded on metal bias Maxell MX-S 100 cassettes. I ran two cassettes in a dual deck so there’s no tape flip, and it was a straight shot across San Francisco Bay from the Sutro Tower to my receiver. Great reception. There’s one four-second drop of the right channel on “Sick & Tired,” but that’s due to an engineer messing with the mix and was on the original broadcast.

The concert itself was part of a ten-night stand at the Fillmore. Scaggs was promoting his “Come On Home” album, which had been released earlier in the year. “Come On Home” saw Scaggs returning to his blues roots, tossing in a handful of new originals into an album’s worth of covers of old blues songs. With such a blues based album to promote, it meant that a blast through “Loan Me A Dime” is pretty much required. Sure enough, we get an extended, fifteen minute version.

A few of the disco era white-soul songs get tossed to the crowd like raw meat, but this is mainly Scaggs singing the blues.
