This performance at the Ritz, NYC on June 5th, 1985 for broadcast by WNEW-FM, magnificently captures the raw intensity of Mountain live with Leslie West - guitar, vocals, Mark Clarke - bass, vocals and Corky Laing - drums, percussion, it features the tracks "Hard Times" and "Spark from their Go For Your Life album that had just been released. Mountain's music, at its finest, is an organic and feral experience, they are one of many bands commonly credited with influencing the development of heavy metal music. Corky Laing's Mountain - Live La Brasov Jazz And Blues Festival February 11 2019

 

Mountain was, for me at least, a "Hero" band. I think back to a time in the seventies when a long lost friend of mine and myself who were not considered "cool" would never be invited to any parties. So hence, the chances of "picking up any chicks" was thoroughly out of the question. And besides, with faces like ours, our chances were always gonna be pretty slim anyway. Instead we would wile away the hours playing pinball at a local bowling alley. But before we would go into said "alley" we would sit in his "68" Chevy Camaro supporting and smoking the Mexican economy, while listening to "Flowers Of Evil" on his 8-track. Now this was way before a car system had the capacity to cause the kind of damage like the recent Tennessee bomber did. There is a part in program three (on the 8-track) during "Dream Sequence" where Leslie hits a note and holds it for what seemed like ten minutes when your under the influence. We would turn that 8-track player up full and play our air guitars while that note resonated. As the "Dream Sequence" continued and the band would go into the "improv" section of the song, the air guitars became the air drums. Corky Laing kills it during those sections. He is never mentioned as one of the greatest drummers, but I'm here to tell you, you should reconsider his standing when greatest drummer lists come up. In January over at "The Adult Bookstore" I will be posting the first three Mountain albums. I STII LOVE MOUNTAIN. Ok one story from this download. This is almost like trying to relearn how to ride a bike.  I have no idea why I've been so lazy. I always check in though. First off, Boss Goddamn I hope you're foot is getting better. Jeez I'll bet the rehab is worse then being subjected to a door less room where all that's piped in is Beyonce and Rhianna. How are you doing? What's the prognosis? When do you think you'll be able to play basketball again? One more thing a while back I got an official notice from the blog police about a Bruce post. I never posted it and from looking at our back pages the alleged post was never printed here. Do you think it was some Hamas site looking to get all four dollars and sixty-cents from my bank account in some unscrupulous way?  Anyway good to be back. Hope to hear from some of you. Let me know what your looking for, and if I can track it down I'll post it. As always see scans for details.
