17 Richard Thompson - Borrowed Time (outtake)

Another multi-generation WXRT-FM tape that I got in trade back in the 1980s.  Good show, from one of WXRT's Sunday night rebroadcasts.  Sometimes they edited the show down from a longer original show, so there's a possibility that there's a longer version of this out there.

Back when we traded tapes through the mail, we would often end up with space for a few extra songs.  Most traders would add in a few tracks to fill up the blank space.  On this show, the trader added two outtakes of unknown date.  What with all the releases of bonus tracks over the years, these may have been released by now.

I've found press coverage confirming the date of the show, and it's in the Artwork folder.

An off-the-air master from the Sam Eliot's Mustache collection, brought to you by the Collective of Live Music.

Eventually, we'll track down the vinyl and do a pre-FM rip for you, but for now, give this one a spin!  As it's sourced from a cassette, I can't give you the usual 300 dpi scans...but I added the cues and a disc scan from Discogs.

But because we believe in going the extra mile here at the V-W, I tracked down an ad for the show from the Toronto Star.

Otis Taylor - Monterey Jazz Festival 2007

Back From the Dead...

Excellent WBGO FM Source @320

By his mid-teens, Taylor was already playing guitar and harmonica in his own groups, the Butterscotch Fire Department Blues Band and later the Otis Taylor Blues Band. He also formed the T&O Short Line with legendary Deep Purple singer/guitarist Tommy Bolin before retiring from the music business in 1977 to become a successful antiques dealer. Taylor returned to music in 1995 with albums reminiscent of John Lee Hooker's work, albeit with a more minimalist bent. But it wasn't until 2001, when Taylor started to play what he calls "trance blues," that people really took notice. The recording White African's haunting rhythms and dark lyrics revealed a bluesman unafraid to expose social wounds.

The complete concert was not broadcast!

Präsentiert von dem Kollektiv für Live-Musik

We've got 300 dpi scans of all four disc labels and the cue sheet, and I've added some press coverage about the gig and the band to keep you reading writing by humans instead of AI generated junk-commentary.

The Stray Cats had three shows on NBC's The Source:
NBC 82-43 Stray Cats Concert December 10-11-12, 1982
NBC 83-10 Stray Cats Concert March 11-12-13, 1983
NBC 83-48 Stray Cats Profile/Concert December 2-3-4, 1983

82-43 and 83-10 are sourced from the Ritz, New York City, NY November 28, 1982 and have identical set lists, but different commercials.

We've already posted the 83-10 version of these tracks. The songs here are the same, the announcements and commercials are different.  The vinyl on this has some minor surface noise during the quiet portions but no issues once the band gets rock n' rolling.

I don't know the source of the live tracks on 83-48 but it contains at least two live tracks not sourced from the Ritz ("Hot Rod Mama" "Sexy and 17"), so it's likely they're from another concert.

This was part of a Christmas countdown run of shows, where the Source ran several shows a week in 1982 (they repeated the Christmas countdown in 1983, too).  As an added bonus, they brought in the vocal talents of Don Pardo as the second announcer.

BBC College Concert #19 - Joe Jackson - Hammersmith Odeon, Aug. 15, 1982

Joe Jackson

Hammersmith Odeon
London, England
August 15, 1982

01 Pete Larkin & Richard Skinner - BBC College Concert
02 Joe Jackson - Look Sharp
03 Joe Jackson - Cancer
04 Joe Jackson - Real Man
05 Joe Jackson - Friday
06 Joe Jackson - Breaking Us In Two
07 Pete Larkin - BBC College Concert 19 Intro
08 Joe Jackson - Chinatown
09 Joe Jackson - Target
10 Joe Jackson - TV Age
11 Joe Jackson - Different For Girls
12 Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out
13 Pete Larkin & Richard Skinner - BBC College Concert

Runout grooves:
BBC college concert A 1-30-83
BBC college concert B 1-30-83
Note DISCOGS says it's "A" on side two, this is an error.

Brought to you by the Collective For Live Music.
This one is from Đ®åⒻṬëŕṽøï's copy of the LP.

You get...300 dpi scans of BOTH disc labels! 300 dpi scans of BOTH sides of the cue sheet!  Yes! Front and back!  We spare NO EXPENSE here at the V-W!  Plus, some press blurbs, and a general interest article about the venue.

The concert took place on August 15, 1982. It was recorded for later broadcast, and first broadcast on BBC Radio 1's "In Concert" on October 2, 1982.

Eleven tracks were released by the BBC Transcription services for the 1982 broadcast on In Concert-286 BBC Transcription Services CN 4072/S, with a set list that ran:

Look Sharp
Cancer
Real Man
Friday
Breaking Us In Two
Fools In Love
Chinatown
Target
T.V. Age
It's Different For Girls
Steppin' Out

American radio got ten tracks (all of the above except Fools In Love) released three times, on:

BBC Rock Hour #340 Versions A and B (broadcast week of Oct. 3, 1983)
BBC College Concert #19 (broadcast week of Jan. 1, 1983) {this show}
BBC Rock Hour #445 Versions A and B (broadcast week of Nov. 6, 1983).

The Hammersmith concert is also included on the official Joe Jackson 2CD "At The BBC". That version omits "Friday" (which was on all four of the British and American syndicated radio show versions) but includes the additional track "Tuxedo Junction".  While you'll need the official release, you'll need to add "Friday" to it to build a complete set list.

Set lists for the 1982 Night and Day Tour at jj-archive.net show Jackson was playing a 15 to 20 song set list, usually featuring a Motown Medley.  The Hammersmith Odeon show is shorter than usual. It's unfortunate that given its brevity; A&M didn't put out the entire concert and chose to skip a single track.  Kudos to them for giving us "Tuxedo Junction," though. :)

The CD notes on "At The BBC" attribute the date to "Hammersmith Odeon 2/10/82."  This is the October broadcast date where the show went out over the radio, not the date the show was recorded.
Also note that American and British date conventions mean that Americans read the 2/10/82 on the packaging as "February 10, 1982" when the intent is that it be read as "October 10, 1982." The U.S. date format is month-day-year: the month appears before the day, while UK style is day-month-year.
The ISO date format, YYYY-MM-DD...or just spelling it out with the written name of the month provides clarity when sharing information internationally.

I've included newspapers that document the date of the original concert, and the date of the BBC broadcast.

I love Joe Jackson, and I hope you enjoy this concert.  You'll need to buy the official release to get this in better quality...but you'll need this for the missing track.

OH HECK I FORGOT TO MENTION...BUCK DHARMA GUESTS ON "SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE!"

Our pal Sam shipped the discs out to me, and I ending up digitizing it twice. It took a fair amount of work to bash into shape, but the end result is much better than the record.  There were lots of sections where I had to work through little bits of static.

The concert was a benefit dubbed "The Steelworkers Ball," a benefit for unemployed steel workers sponsored by WIYY-FM and Miller Beer (through their local distributor Bond Distributing Company).

I've included 300 dpi scans of the cue sheet and all four disc labels.  I want to point out the cue sheet lists a "Side 5." There was no third disc, the entire show was on two discs.  I found some press coverage of the show and it's in the Artwork folder.

Cranes - Wings Of Joy 1991 {Out Of Print}

Back From The Dead...Again
Originally posted September 25, 2014 and September 17, 2018

Cranes - Wings Of Joy - 1991
Studio Recordings @  VBR
Out of Print

This was and always will be one of the most haunting, beautiful, intense and O-R-I-G-I-N-A-L albums of the 1990's decade. The swirling screeching guitars, the crashing drums, the melancholy piano and Allison's sweet, haunting child like plaintive voice make up one of the most unforgettable albums of its time.

This album should be listened to as a whole since many of the songs blend together, still gems on here that deserve their own mention.

"Starblood" is one that is unmatched in its raw, primal, angry intensity and is as passionate as any great punk song. It is placed among songs like "Leaves of Summer" and "Adoration" which are as moving and sophisticated as any modern day classical composition.

Alison Shaw – vocals, bass guitar, acoustic guitar
Jim Shaw – guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, drums
Paul Smith – guitar, keyboards
Matt Cope – guitar
Manu Ross – drums

Track List:
1. Watersong
2. Thursday
3. Living and Breathing
4. Leaves of Summer
5. Starblood
6. Sixth of May
7. Wish
8. Tomorrow's Tears
9. Beautiful Sadness
10. Hopes Are High
11. Adoration

BBC College Concert - 10/31/82 - B

Brought to you by The Collective Of Live Music. Transcribed from the original BBC disc March 2025.

Flac files of wavs, with 300 dpi scans of the cue sheet and disc labels.  Press coverage that proves the recording date.  I added some press coverage of the band from around the time of the show.

According to Discogs, this show was issued as "Open Your Eyes" back in 1983 in a limited edition of 200 copies with no record label. In 2019, Cleopatra Records issued it on red vinyl in an edition of 300 copies, and in white vinyl (333 copies).

Note the cue sheet attributes "Fortune Teller" to Jagger/Richards.  While the Rolling Stones covered the song, they did not write it, nor were they the first to record it.  The song was written by Allen Toussaint under the pseudonym Naomi Neville, and was first recorded by Benny Spellman.

This is the same version as over at TheNewJDP, I did the digitaztion but tossed the ball over to JustDave as we're juggling a lot of authors here.  Which is a good thing.  As I always say, "if a thing is worth doing, it's worth over-doing."

This was a repeat of the first broadcast of this show, which was originally on NBC The Source NBC 83-37, broadcast July 8, 9, 10, 1983.  This original broadcast featured custom disc labels and a printed cover, all of which carried the image of the child on the album cover. This later rebroadcast did not come with the fancy packaging.

There is an unusual 3 minute and 21 second section before the encore of audience clapping, hooting, screaming, and whistling until the band starts the final song.  That's not unusual on an actual live broadcast; the radio station has no control over the length of the encore break. On an edited show for syndication, they usually tighten it up and cut right to the final number.  It's even more unusual that this was repeated on the second syndication.

 Pink Floyd - Total Eclipse
A Retrospective 1967 - 1993 (4-CD Box)

Great Dane Records, Italy (LIBERATED BOOTLEG)

Lineage: Silver Cd's > Wav > Flac

Original Notes

Ok, I haven't seen this wonderful set on Dime so I have decided to upload it. There was a nice handful of  material on the set that has since become commercially available and I have removed the offending works. However, instead of just removing it and calling it a day, I have added a fine selection of other tracks that fit well on the set. Some of the new material consists of things that the compiler stated that he would have liked to have included in hindsight. I will mark the new tracks with an (*). Also note,
You may want to add your own fade outs and fade ins on some of the "new" tracks.

I hope you enjoy, this set was my earliest introduction to what lay beyond the fantastic studio albums...
I feel that Total Eclipse gives a good feel for what the Floyd were capable of live and in the studio. The perfect way to dive in.

Original Notes:

Comments: I saw Total Eclipse repackaged. It is in a white folder type thing that looks like a fairly cheap plastic holder. I assume it folds open and has two discs on each side (it was that sort of size). The artwork is a faded version of the original, sporting the Great Dane dog head on the spine but no catalogue number or bar code on the back. No clue about the book inside... It was retailing for $80. Looks to me like the people that have brought us the continued Meddler and Azimuth have added this to their stable... - DAve.

TOTAL ECLIPSE was conceived in 1993, well into Great Dane's ambitious "Pink Floyd Project." Great Dane had wanted to put out a box set that would appeal to the fans who had been terribly disapointed with "Shine On," Pink Floyd's official release. It's purpose was to attempt to bring to the fans a comprehensive overview of the band's career, substituting rare material and alternative tracks wherever possible. This is the reason why many of the early singles and B-sides were included (which many people question). Much "Top Gear" material was also included because not only were the sound sources believed to be the better than on any previously released RoIO, but also because it seemed that these tracks should also be represented in the band's history. TOTAL ECLIPSE was meant to be chronological (although a few tracks are out of order) and comprehensive; something that could be listened to from beginning to end.

In retrospect, things probably could have been different. Originally TOTAL ECLIPSE was planned to be a 5 CD set, but Great Dane wanted to utilize it's 4 CD "Book" format, presenting 2 CD's on the insides of the front and back covers (this was the first of many Great Dane releases to be packaged in this manner), with an extensive booklet sandwiched between. Although the 5 CD set was ready to go into production (as far as the remastered DATS were concerned), remastering had to start all over again, and cuts had to be made.

In hindsight, the extensive "Nick's Boogie" could have been omited, making room for a few other early tracks, as well as some of the material from DSOTM ("Breath," "On The Run," and "The Great Gig In The Sky"), previously issued on other RoIO's. This might have left room for rare tracks such as "Main Theme From More," "Obscured By Clouds" and "When You're In," and the much requested "Childhood's End." The recent live singles an B-sides from 1987's DSOT tour, "Run Like Hell," and "Money," could also have made room for these rarities. Quality was also a major factor, this being the reason why certain desirable rarities were omitted. Perhaps the biggest regret was the omission of "Lucy Leave" and "King Bee", whose authenticity were still questionable at the time. It was not worth taking the risk of compromising the integrity of this release with a few possibly bogus recordings.

But the efforts put forth, warts and all, seemed to have paid off. Over three years later, it seems that the fans hold TOTAL ECLIPSE in very high regards, and that was my intention to begin with.

Unfortunately, once all of the material (remastered tapes, photos, text, and original artwork) were assembled and shipped to Italy, the production and manufacturing were out of my hands, Great Dane's releases got more elaborate, more ambitious, and certainly more professional over the years, so I'm glad that I wasn't asked to produce TOTAL ECLIPSE at the start of the great "Pink Floyd Project" (which was to release definitive CD's representing each of the band's major tours).

Not being RoLO's, these projects obviously had their limitations. I helped to produce these CD's not only to preserve the best of my audio collection on a (hopefully) longer lasting and more durable format, I wanted to present something that I would buy for myself. I also wanted to show respect for the fans, offering them something that had some thought behind it, making it worth their hard earned cash.

TOTAL ECLIPSE went through three pressings before Great Dane went under due to the Gat Treaty. The second pressing had two even columns on the back cover displaying the track listing. The image on the cover was also sharper and closer to the color of the original artwork. Almost ten thousand copies were produced and undoubtedly sold.

To address other issues stated in comments concerning this RoIO, the "barely readable articles" were included, not to be "read," but for "artistic" purposes only. For some unknown reason, "Murderistic Women" was omitted (although it was included in the liner notes), and "The Massed Gadgets..." was split into two tracks (although it plays out seamlessly). If any tracks seem speeded up or too slow, that is unfortunately the nature of some RoIO's, and the lack of sophisticated equipment (at the time) on my end to make those corrections.

I'd have to say that I've been pretty happy with most of the public's response to Total Eclipse, although I really wish I could do it all over again....

Warren Haynes & The Rich Hippies - Warren's House in Asheville, NC 1985

Warren Haynes got his first break joining David Allan Coe's touring and recording band in the early 1980s. David Allan Coe Bass Guitarist Mickey Hayes first saw Haynes performing at a nightclub called "The Brass Tap" in Asheville, NC. Coe and the band had just finished a movie called "Lady Grey", and the lead guitarist was going to be let go. Hayes went to Coe and told him of a promising guitarist he saw and recommended Haynes be hired ASAP to join the band and fill the spot. Upon Hayes advice, Coe called and asked Haynes join the band. He joined that night and played in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

He toured for a few years throughout America, along with trips overseas to Norway, Denmark, and Britain, amongst others. Haynes met Dickey Betts while recording a David Allen Coe X-rated album in the studio in Nashville, TN. Late at night during recording, Coe left and came back with friends Dickey Betts, Gregg Allman, and Don Johnson of the television show Miami Vice. This was Haynes' first introduction to Dickey Betts.

After playing with Coe for years, Warren Haynes and Mickey Hayes left Coe and relocated to Nashville, where they shared an apartment and worked together to form the band "Rich Hippies" which consisted of: Dennis Robbins on slide guitar and backing vocals, Mickey Hayes on Bass guitar and backing vocals, Mark Deaver on drums and Warren Haynes on lead guitar and lead vocals, and Tommy Irwin on steel guitar. The band lasted over a year from 1984 to late 1985, with them performing various clubs around the Nashville area.

If you paused to read this then you should check this out, you won't be disappointed!

Once again, I present evidence to you that goes against the "facts."  The enclosed article in the Northern Echo says "The Teardrop Explodes" was from an American DC comic."  This gets repeated; indeed, the band members themselves seem to have referenced DC on more than one occasion.  Here's the actual panel (from the Artwork folder)....and that's Spiderman, Daredevil, and Namor, the Submariner...all of which are from Marvel, not DC.
