George Thorogood Boarding House 11-23-77 complete

 George Thorogood and the Destroyers
The Boarding House
San Francisco, CA
November 23, 1977
KSAN-FM
MOOSE TRACKS TAPE + GWH TAPE VERSION

My friend GWH taped the Thorogood show from the KSAN broadcast.  His version is the source of the versions that begin  with  "Cocaine Blues."

A few years back, the Moose Tracks tape turned up on the late, lamented Quality Bootz website (Hi, Dave!)...but it was still not complete.

The MOOSE TRACKS tape had the missing songs. However, the Moose Tracks tape had a minor edit at the transition of "Wanted Man/Picture from Life's Other Side," and was missing over a minute of "So Much Trouble." It also cut out the DJ banter at the end, where KSAN DJ Tony Kilbert does a very laid-back mid-70s FM dj-hipster outro that helps define the era.

So I combined the Moose Tracks version + the GWH version to make a complete version of the broadcast.

If you've never heard it...Thorogood is still in "bar band" mode, reminding patrons to tip their bartenders and waitresses, calling out for a dance contest on one song, a "ladies choice" dance on another, and he rocks like crazy.  This is one of my favorite live shows of all time, and now it's pretty much perfect.

These are flac files of wavs.

Setlist:

01. Baby Please Set A Date
02. New Hawaiian Boogie
03. Barbeque Blues
04. Move It On Over
05. Cocaine Blues

Jimi Hendrix - Studio Sessions & Mixes

Jimi Hendrix
Studio Sessions & Mixes
New Rising Sun: All Along The Watchtower / Come On (Pt.1)

What to say about this?

"The Great (one of the greats!) thing in this AATW session, is to hear Jimi being very happy, into working on it, and be honest and being so shy tellin “ho yeah, that was MY fault”… during a take… his Fault!! Ha ha ha great Jimi!"by longjam at crosstown torrents

"It amazes me, but some of the Come On outtakes were used as a filler on a Berkeley tape I obtained through a Dutch radio show back in the eighties. Never knew what I had it appears… But basically, I am overjoyed that new material still surfaces after so many decades…"by Ezy Rider at crosstown torrents

Pat Benatar WW1 Superstar in Concert CO89-02

The vinyl was mint, virtually unplayed, so the sound quality is top-notch.  There's a similar (but not identical) show circulating on the Internet as "from the Westwood One Superstars In Concert" attributed to Philadelphia with a date of November 10, 1988....but this differs in several songs.  It's likely that WW1 broadcast the show several times but with different running orders, and swapping out several songs.  I'm not sure if the date they list for that show is the broadcast date of the syndicated show, or the date of the actual concert, so I'm not listing a date. I also haven't compared the tracks to see if they're from the same source.  If you have it, perhaps you can check and post something in the comments?

The Tower Theater is in Upper Darby, a suburb of Philadelphia, so I've listed it with the name of that township.

As usual, I've included scans of the cover, cue sheet, affidavit, and a record label are included.  I've tracked the commercials and the Westwood One breaks so that you can exclude them if you're not interested.

Gary Clark Jr. - Live KCRW

The two-hour show revalidated the idea that an inspired guitar, bass and drums combo on a small stage can still be more overpowering live than pummeling dance beats and a hundred-foot LED wall. The 28-year-old Austin, Texas, singer-guitarist is perhaps the most exciting blues-based instrumentalist to emerge since Jack White. His sound culls from a century of American guitar music, performed with a panache that’s wholly contemporary.

The Ghosts Of Gerdes

I should live in a Big City like New York.I could go to a club on Saturday night, spend the night with good music and maybe some good friends and maybe I could turn on a nice girl, too.
Instead of having a good night I am sitting here in my first class cell and doing this no profit job...
Must do a big thing totally wrong...

(by the way: has anybody seen my buddies?
I guess, they know how to do it right)

"June 6, 2001 - The Patti Smith Group are playing a three night gig at the new Greenwich Village venue "Village Underground". The sold out show I saw was fantastic! Full of passion and feeling, Patti Smith is a true legend. It's great to see a world-class artist such as Patti in a small and intimate room. It felt like a show in a friends basement, and the crowd loved every minute. Club owner Steve Weitzman has been bringing some very good shows to the city and this one is no exception."by Bob Gruen

Velvet Underground - Live Boston, MA. 1969

Velvet Underground - Live Boston, MA.
March 13, 1969
1st generation "Professor" audience recording + WBCN radio interview
aka - Boston Tea Party
@ Flac (No Flac Errors)

Lineage: master reels > 10" reels (7-1/2ips, w/ modest EQ) > AIFF > FLAC > WAV > FLAC (level 8)

...low volume...TURN IT UP!!!

The recording documents that the Velvets played 2 separate sets this night. Lou is very talkative and introduces "Ferryboat Bill" as a new song: "....we always try our new songs out in Boston...". "Waiting" is introduced as "a fast version" and sets off at breakneck speed with a minute long instrumental intro followed by some impassioned vocals and manic guitar solos. "What Goes On" closes the 1st set in a frenzy.
During the 2nd set, WLWH is now stretched out to 7 mins - another guitar frenzy, leading into the restrained beauty of "Jesus". "Sister Ray" is the only possible closer, with Lou introducing the characters at the beginning, then breaking into a few lines from "Murder Mystery" at the end.
 (Addition notes included in download.)

disc 1

D101: Heroin (6:24)
D102: Candy Says (5:08)
D103: Ferryboat Bill (won't you please come home)(4:40)

D105: I'm Set Free (4:45)
D106: What Goes On (7:52)
D107: I Can't Stand It (7:39)
D108: Beginning To See The Light (6:27)

The Cars - Super Groups In Concert

While this show is common, this is a fresh digitization direct from the LP's done in January 2013.  I declicked the tracks one click at a time in Audacity.  I cleaned the records with Titebond II wood glue, and I managed to pull off almost all of the clicks and pops.

The broadcast date is a mystery to me. There is no broadcast date in the cue sheets.  The Frampton set came with three pages of instructions for the commercials that clearly stated the broadcast date, but there weren't any such sheets included with the Cars Super Groups set I bought on Ebay.  The cue sheets for the Cars do say that specific commercial instructions will be mailed to the radio stations, so it's possible there is a date named on those lost commercial sheets.

Other copies of this on the Internet list the broadcast date as both September 15, 1979, or April 19, 1980.  Both of those dates contradict the two dates I found mentioned in Billboard Magazine (reproduced in full below). The first says October 27 1979 and the next says November 10 1979.  So...at this point, the best I can say is that the broadcast was probably late 1979.   It seems to be one of the more common Super Groups, as there are usually copies available on Ebay.  If it was repeated in April 1980, that might explain why it appears to be the most common of the Super Groups shows.

The second Billboard blurb also claims the show is recorded in "Los Angeles and Boston." This show has, at times, been attributed entirely to Studio City, CA Sept 5, 1979, or the Universal Amphitheater in Universal City, CA.... but I've also seen it claimed that it was from Memphis, TN.  There is no attribution of location in the show itself.  So...I'm leaving the location as an open question.

The first run of the Super Groups concerts came in high quality "boxed set" packaging, with the cue sheets on high quality paper.  The boxes' artwork was a colored background with an even pattern of white dots on the front and back.  The early ones featured a unique color scheme for each artist.  Frampton was black with white dots, the Moody Blues was blue with white dots, Blondie was yellow with white dots, the Cars box was light blue....(I suspect that the Moody Blues in a blue box and Blondie in a yellow box were not color coincidences...).

Two of the shows (Foreigner, Alice Cooper) had a few songs that were not truly live. They added applause to previously released studio album tracks and added the fake live cuts to an actual live show.

Billboard Sept. 26, 1979:
"ABC's FM Network, which this year unveiled the "Supergroups In Concert" series, will offer four concerts in 1980, plus a select group of concert encores from this year.  The final concert to this year's series on Oct. 27 will feature the Cars, which will probably be carried on more than 300 stations as past concerts have. "

Billboard Oct. 20, 1979:
"The final "Supergroups In Concert" for this year, featuring the Cars, will be carried on more than 400 stations Nov. 10 at 8 p.m.  Chicago air personality Bob Sirott will host this show, recorded at appearances in Boston and Los Angeles.

Dick Foreman, vice president and director of programming for the ABC Radio Networks, promises this show "will be the highlight of the series" that began last May.

"It captures one of America's best rock groups in its finest performances"

"Supergroups" will continue through the 1980s, he added.""

Jeff Beck Group - 1972-03-25 - Beat Club - Bremen - German TV

While brother Jobe is relaxing on his beloved sofa watching some Action - movies with the family and while Silentway has to entertain his audience on his others 120 music blogs, not to mention Draftervoi, it seems to be my turn to bring some classic English Rock music onto the Wagon on this cold and grey Sunday winter day.

Jeff Beck Group
1972-03-25
Beat Club
Bremen,GER

Excellent Jeff Beck performance on German TV!
Probably the best TV show in Germany ever. Long haired Uschi Nerke presented the show on Saturday afternoon I guess once a month! Classic...(haha)

And I`m glad it`s 1972. Cause at this time Beck released his "Rough And Ready"(1971) and "Jeff Beck Group"(1972)  albums,my all time favourite Jeff Beck releases.
The vocals sound somehow dirty (Bob Tench) and the guitars are raw and exciting.
Fantastic!
Oh,yes,I forgot:the following songs are songs from the mentioned albums...
