This show was one of the first ten Superstars Concert Series that ran through 1983. The Coca-Cola Company was the exclusive sponsor so the ad breaks are short one minute commercials. There's only eight minutes of advertising in the ninety minute program.

The Superstar Concert Series was distributed in boxes with printed covers.  For the first year, the boxes had the artists names printed on them.  While there are eleven artists named, there were only ten shows.  The sixth show of the series paired Sammy Hagar with Quarterflash.

As of 2020 the La Crosse-Onalaska metropolitan area has an estimated 140,000 residents.  Distance to the next big city is about 150 miles (Minneapolis to the northwest, Madison to the southeast).  Back in the 1980 census it was about 91,000 people in the metro area... so this is a small city.  However, the La Crosse Center is big, holding between 5,000 and 7,500 depending on the type of event.  Given that Westwood One was based in Los Angeles, it's a mighty long drive to La Crosse to record a show... almost 2,000 miles.

Here we have one of the last of the Superstar Radio Network promotional discs from 1981. Most of these came out in 1977 and 1978.  This one is a straggler, coming in in the middle of 1981.

This is from the Sam Eliot's Mustache Collection; he shipped it across the country last week and I figured we needed a break from the Source shows, so here it is.

There were three sides of live music.  The fourth side was etched with autographs by the band.  The autographs are hard to see even in good light, and don't reproduce well in a photograph.  You have to hold the record up to a light source and tilt it to get them to stand out. Hey, I'm a lazy sod (as the Sex Pistols put it) so I fixed the problem with a bit of flood-filling in graphics program. We go the extra mile here at the Voodoo Wagon.

82-11 and 83-5 are courtesy of the super-generous Sam Elliot's Mustache. 82-32 is from a box I found in the Đ®åⒻṬëŕṽøï secret underground basement archives, next to my Batmobile. 

This is a mega-post of the three Loverboy shows broadcast by NBC's The Source.  All feature songs from the same concert, and two have identical set lists.  Announcers and advertising are unique to each show.  As they're sourced from vinyl pressed over forty years ago, there's a few short patches where there's more surface noise than I like, but 99% of this is perfect.   If you're a completist, download all three.

There's a letter with the 82-11 show with "pertinent information" stating the recording date was Feb. 25, 1982. 
 
I confirmed this with references from the local newspapers.  However, there's a bit of confusion.  The Lincoln Star has a review of the concert on Thursday, Feb. 25, the Omaha World Herald also says Thursday.

But earlier in the month, the Lincoln Journal said Loverboy was to play on Feb. 24, which was Wednesday.  Setlist.fm does not show a Loverboy show on that date.  

A later broadcast mentions "...the concert broke the Pershing attendance record with 9,136."

First of all, for MYSTERY FANS, I have found a clue in the run-out grooves:  a numerical code etched into the vinyl that gives us a show number. There's enough references on Discogs to conclude that Supergroups started numbering their albums with this code in 1981; prior shows are not numbered in the same manner.  Supergroups wanders back n' forth between "SG" and "SGC," but they're all part of the same numbering scheme.  Hey, they never figured out if "Super Groups" was one word, or two, so we shouldn't expect consistency.

I did some research to on possible venues and dates.  At the time, Loverboy was touring their second album with a limited repertoire, so set lists are similar for the entire tour.

The announcer, Pat St. John, says "...Supergroups was there when Loverboy played to sold-out arenas in Kalamazoo Michigan, Oxford Ohio, and Dallas Texas."  (The cue sheet doesn't mention Dallas).  The "Concert Vault" website has two Loverboy shows:  Dallas November 18, 1981 and Columbus, OH April 24, 1982. The Dallas show at Concert Vault is likely the same show used for portions of Supergroups.  The Columbus Ohio show matched the state, and I thought Oxford might be a suburb of Columbus...but it's 117 miles between them, so that was a dead end.  However, the Setlist Wiki website lists a show for Millet Hall, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, on April 24, 1982.  Bingo!  We have a match!  And they also have a show listed for April 25, 1982 show at Wings Stadium, Kalamazoo, MI., so those are the most likely dates and venues.

You'll notice that the two Ohio shows are on the same day...so one of 'em is wrong.  My bet is that Concert Vault has it wrong.

I wasn't a Loverboy fan; they were too "arena rock" for my taste at the time, which was more punk and New Wave.  I enjoyed giving this a listen; several of the songs are now Classic Rock staples; I've made my peace with "Working For The Weekend."

This version digitized 2017 from the 3-lp set.  I spent several weeks cleaning up clicks, ticks, and pops, trying to get to this to sound as close to mint as possible.  FLAC files of wavs, and includes 300 dpi scans of the cue sheets and a disc label.
