Simply a killer performance, definitely one of my all-timer's for Cheap Trick, a stellar set-list with the band sounding at the top of their game. When it comes to this tour this is the only show I reach for over and over when I want to rock out big-time, Cheap Trick give you everything and more!

 Recorded on the tour to support "Woke Up With A Monster" released on March 22nd on Warner Bros. Records and produced by Ted Templeman. It was their first and only album for Warners and peaked at US #123 on the Billboard chart. Shortly after the album's release Cheap Trick was dropped from the Warner Brothers label.

 After the band's appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman, the band spent a month in Japan before returning to America to begin supporting the album by touring. Before the tour commenced Petersson commented: "We'll do almost every song off the record. We can do all of them. We kind of wing it. We don't practice the songs, really. We'll maybe do them at a soundcheck or something, or get a tape and go, 'Yeah, maybe we should do... "Oh Claire."' Sometimes people suggest things."

Recorded and broadcast during the "Heaven Tonight" tour, it was in support of their 3rd album which was released in May 1978 and again produced by Tom Werman. This is another fantastic performance, but contrary to what the artwork depicts, this show of course does not have Pete Comita on bass, he wouldn't replace Tom Petersson until the early 80's.
Regarded by many fans and critics as their best album, the lead-off track "Surrender" was Cheap Trick's first single to chart in the United States, peaking at No. 62. It has gone on to become one of the band's signature songs. Heaven Tonight is also noteworthy as the first album recorded with a 12-string electric bass. Perhaps most importantly, this album made the band megastars in Japan.
None of Cheap Trick's first three albums made it into the Top 40 in the United States. In Japan, however, all three albums became gold records. When Cheap Trick went to Japan to tour the country for the first time in April 1978, they were received with a frenzy reminiscent of Beatlemania. During this tour, Cheap Trick recorded two concerts attended by their loyal Japanese fans at the Nippon Budokan.

Recording date is likely April 6, 7, or 8th, 1984 as I've found a copy of a local base newspaper, the "Hawaii Marine" dated April 4, 1984 that mentions that "a carnival featuring rides,
food, refreshments and the rock band "The First Airborne
Rock and Roll Division" should liven Fort DeRussy this weekend."

From what I've discovered, the First Airborne Rock and Roll Division played for three nights at Fort DeRussy Military Reservation,
which would be April 6, 7, or 8th, 1984. It's possible the show
is from any (or several) of those dates.

A copy of that newspaper page has been added to the file.  Note that several online sources list this show as "March 1984."

Captured Live! produced radio shows starting in March 1982 to December 1984 for affiliated stations on the RKO Radio Network.  Distribution was usually on two or three LP sets, and Captured Live! produced hosted and unhosted versions.  A script was included for the stations that chose to use the unhosted version.   Over the years the full sets with both hosted/unhosted versions have often been split apart and sold as separate items.

As of June 18, 1984, the show changed to "hosted only," all shows after that date should not have an "unhosted" version.

I've also seen Captured Live! reel-to-reel tapes for sale, and they don't seem to have a corresponding LP version.

Most of the shows were broadcasts of current live concerts recorded for Captured Live!, but there was a Fleetwood Mac show consisting of their 1974 KSAN-FM studio broadcast from the Record Plant.

The show numbering scheme took the number of the show in sequence plus the last two digits of the year:  the first show of 1983 was 183, the second show was 283, etc.

The First Airborne Rock And Roll Division band came from an idea by Phil Ehart of Kansas for a series of USO (United Service Organizations Inc.) shows for U.S. military servicemen.  The version of the band touring in the SPRING of 1984 included members of Kansas, Cheap Trick, Pablo Cruise, Doobie Brothers and LeRoux.  They played shows at bases in Hawaii, Okinawa, Japan, the Philipines, Diego Garcia, Germany, and also did shows on aircraft carriers in the Indian Ocean.  Ehart put together different groups of stars for First Airborne USO tours in 1985 and 1986.

Captured Live! did a two part broadcast of the First Airborne Rock And Roll Division's appearance at Fort DeRussy Military Reservation in Honolulu, Hawaii.   The first syndicated broadcast date was on June 4, 1984 (show CL-1984, hosted and unhosted versions), and featured the Kansas/Pablo Cruise songs.  The second broadcast was June 11, 1984 (show CL-2084, hosted and unhosted versions) had the Patrick Simmons/Cheap Trick songs.  I've seen circulating versions of the show that attribute the syndicated date of the shows as the actual date of the concert, which I now think was in April of 1984.  There was also a "greatest hits" version of the show issued as Captured Live! CL-3384 (broadcast date of September 10, 1984) that featured songs from both shows.  This should be a "hosted" version only.

This version is digitized from the LPs of the HOSTED rebroadcast of the show on September 10, 1984 (I do not think there was an "unhosted version" as this is after the date Captured Live! switched to only hosted versions of their shows)

I've included a 300 dpi copy of the cue sheet, and a disc label, and a few news articles I found on the internet.

There are a few long spaces of the audience noise intended as a "bed" for the disk jockey to read the script.  I've included a 300 dpi copy of the script, the cue sheet, instructions, a letter to the Program Director, a disc label, and a few news articles I found on the internet.

I have now found a copy of the later "greatest hits" version of the show with a broadcast date of September 10, 1984, and I'll post that one, too.
