First of all, Greg Douglass is an East Bay boy like me, born in Oakland. He got his start in the Virtues, a typical teen rock band circa 1967 that evolved into the more psychedelic Country Weather. Country Weather PLAYED AT MY HIGH SCHOOL and I saw 'em, so this is like..personal...to help promote Greg Douglass awareness.
Douglass left Country Weather in 1973 to join MISTRESS...who played the Bay Area, recorded a demo tape...and then broke up.
Greg Douglass worked with Hot Tuna for nine months or so in 1975, but adding a second guitarist didn't work and he got the sack. Then he worked with Steve Miller, writing most of the music to "Jungle Love." In response to those who hate "Jungle Love," Douglass was quoted as saying, ""I too was a huge fan of Steve's early work, and scratched my head when 'The Joker' came out, but grew to enjoy it. I have made an enormous amount of money from 'Jungle Love,' and was responsible for the music-guitar parts only, both of which still kick serious ass. And I sleep more peacefully at night knowing I didn't write 'Abracadabra.' Hey, it takes a little horseshit to grow a rose. Now go listen to Children of the Future and relax."
The Steve Miller years were followed by a three album run with the Greg Kihn Band, including an appearance on Kihn's #2 hit "Jeopardy." At the same time, he was also in Bay Area band Terry & the Pirates. He also worked with Van Morrison, Duane Eddy, Link Wray, Dave Mason, and Eddie Money.
While I recorded this on a low bias tape, IT SOUNDS GREAT. First half of the show is in the same vein as Hot Tuna; the second half is singer-songwriter style.
