When his promising post-New York Dolls solo career slowed down in the mid-1980s, David Johansen reinvented himself as the tuxedo-clad lounge singer Buster Poindexter. Musically, this show is a mix of jazz, calypso, and R&B. It's also notable for Johansen's (or Poindexter's...) ability as a raconteur. There are three extended comic stories, and he engages closely with the audience as a jovial-but-cynical Master of Ceremonies.A note on the venue: Bill Graham's Wolfgang's night club was destroyed in a fire in July of '87. Graham kept the club name alive with a series of "Wolfgang's Road Shows" at the Kennel Club, Bimbo's, the Galleria, and City Nights. Wolfgang's had been San Francisco's premier night club for about four years.
