The Voodoo Wagon research team had to dig deep on this one.

The RKO Radio Network's Captured Live series broadcast four shows shows by Triumph:
The first was Triumph - Centrum, Worchester, MA on March 12, 1982, with a broadcast window of April 10/11, 1982. Captured Live! was distributed on reel-to-reel in 1982, and this version included interviews by Marc Parenteau.

There were no Captured Live! shows by Triumph in 1983.

In 1984 there were three shows distributed on 2-LP vinyl records.
CL 884     03/19/84     Triumph - Towson Center, Towson, MD
CL 1384    04/23/84     Triumph - Reunion Arena, Dallas TX
CL 3084    08/20/84     Triumph - Towson Center, Towson, MD (same set list as CL 884)

All of the concert tracks on CL 884 and CL 3084 are the same music.

On the Intro to CL 3084 announcer Jim Ladd says "we're at the Baltimore Civic Center in Baltimore, Maryland where we're looking forward to a concert by Triumph."

I found a ticket for the Baltimore Civic Center proving Triumph played there May 15, 1983.

The Discogs listing for CL 3084 says, "Triumph recorded live February 21, in Towson, Md. on the Allied Forces tour. Gil references are their first time in MD."

Towson or Baltimore? We have a contradiction we must investigate!

I checked, and Triumph played the Towson Center at Towson State University on February 21, 1982.  I found a ticket for that show, too, so we know the date and venue are correct.

The Towson Center is a 5,000 seat arena. Towson borders Baltimore on the north.  Towson Center is eight miles from the Baltimore Civic Center.

The Baltimore Civic Center (now named CFG Bank Arena) is a much larger arena, holding up to 15,000.

As Towson borders Baltimore, I would say their first appearance in the Baltimore area would be the 1982 Towson show.  Towson isn't far enough away to make that second 1983 show count as the first time in town.

And also, a 15,000 seat area is pretty big for a "hall."

The exact quote is from track 10, the "rap" before "Rock & Roll Machine:" "I can't believe that we've been taking the rock and roll crusade from coast to coast of the United States for four years and this is the very first time we come to Baltimore and you people sell this hall out."

During the rap, he also references they're on the Allied Forces Tour.

Allied Forces came out in late 1981. They were promoting that album in February 1982 when they played Towson; it's right in the ad.

Triumph issued their next album Never Surrender in late 1982.

If this was recorded at the Baltimore Civic in May 1983, wouldn't it make more sense to promote the Never Surrender album?

I didn't find a print ad for the '83 show but there was a record store ad mentioning the concert, and it's for the Never Surrender "LP or cassette."  They were clearly promoting the Never Surrender album in 1983, not the Armed Forces album.

Based on this circumstantial evidence I think the Discogs listing is correct, and the Captured Live show was recorded at Towson Center on February 21, 1982.

We've got the script, even though this is the hosted version and is therefore superfluous.  Somewhere there's an unhosted version that needs this script!

I tossed in the ads from the Los Angeles Times, and an LA Weekly interview from a month before the show, and a concert review that didn't think much of the show, but did credit Mr. Dio as a "charged up screamer with lungs forceful enough to blow out a forest fire."

This is the only three-artist Captured Live show, and it's a bit of a missed programming opportunity. The first thing that jumps out is two solid American bands fronted by a woman singing...and then Australia's INXS.  There's nothing wrong with the line-up, but it seems like a missed opportunity to me. If the RKO Radio Networks had picked... say... Berlin...  we'd have three American bands fronted by women singers, providing a theme for the show.  As it is, INXS looks like the odd man out.

There wasn't much I could find about venues or dates...there's no venue mentioned for Quarterflash or INXS (other than "America" on the INXS show).  Perkin's Palace in Pasadena is the location for Scandal.  However... searching for "scandal" in the newspaper.com database produces more results than I can sort through.

On the Scandal show, two songs ("I Second That Emotion" and "Child of the Night") were unreleased at the time.  They appear to be released now, but still on unofficial recordings.

When I worked at the newspaper, there was a running joke about yelling "Stop the presses!" like they used to do on television shows.  You never want to stop the printing press, it takes hours to set up.   This was uncovered SECONDS before I posted, so STOP THE PRESSES!  Up there in the right-hand corner, (no, your other right hand...) I found a print ad for the show!

And then in pointless investigation, I had a mailing label for the production company, P.G. Productions, of 7200 Vineland Way in Sun Valley, California.  Here's what it looks like today:

Fancy paper!

This is part one of a two part show.  Both shows came in a premium box with full color front and back covers. Captured Live! did not use boxes to distribute shows, so this is big change from shows before and after these two shows. The disc labels are two-color printing on a custom silver paper. The cue sheet uses two inks instead of the normal black only.

The big question on these two shows is "why?"  Why was all this extra effort and expense put out on the part of Captured Live! to upgrade all of the packaging just for these two shows? My guess is that it has something to do with the adverting, specifically Sparkomatic. I  don't recall Sparkomatic as a sponsor on other shows. Both Sparkomatic and Chevrolet are called out on the front page of the cue sheet as "Presented by..." The other advertisers (Levi's, U.S. Army) aren't mentioned.
Fancy label!

Speaking of commercials, the David Bowie impersonation on the Chevrolet Camero Berlinetta is a real find.  The music and vocals imitate the sound of his Let's Dance album.

On the music front, the producers chose to put "Owner of a Lonely Heart" on both shows, albeit in different places.  On the first show it's stuck in the middle of the faux-concert, and in the second show it's at the end.  It's the same recording; Yes didn't play the song twice.

Announcer Jim Ladd engages in the fiction he's actually at the show in Dortmund, commenting on the audience reaction and describing the laser light show.  I'm pretty sure he was dubbing this onto the concert in a studio in the U.S.A. at a later date.

Another gem from the Sam Eliot's Mustache archives!   Once again, this is from a pre-FM reel to reel radio station tape.

I found a newspaper review from the Boston Globe, wherein the reviewer compared them to "a smarter REO Speedwagon," and a peeved "Letter To The Editor" reply that took umbrage at such a comparison.

The American Express "Do You Know Me" commercial features Gladys Knight and the ever Fabulous Pips.

If I were to have a dream job, I'd be a one of the Pips!  "Woo woo!  Live in his world!  Her world is his, his and hers alone...." Left left right, step back, turn around...uh...

---

But I digress.  The show sounds great. If I were to venture a criticism, I would prefer more Squeeze originals in lieu of the covers of "Tears of a Clown" and "Time Is Tight."  That being said, they're both perfectly good covers.  They do rush the tempos a bit but it was the punk/post punk era, we played fast back then.

So!  Voodoo gang!  Step back in time 42 years and enjoy....SQUEEZE!

The article from the Philadelphia Daily News says the Splitz Enz set was from "the most exciting rock show of the season...."P.O.P. '82, starting tomorrow afternoon at the Mann Music Center."

That was a quadruple bill, with Squeeze, Split Enz, Madness... and Duran Duran as the opening act.  I have no idea what the P.O.P. acronym stood for. If you've got the answer, please leave a comment.

On this one we have shots of the original cue sheets, reel, and tape box I grabbed off of an EBAY listing. They're terrible, someone took these with their cell phone.  What they're good for is to tell us what documentation did exist and is missing for all of the other shows.

We establish that the tape box had "13TH IN THE SERIES" but the show number wasn't on the cue sheet.  I do not see an air date or broadcast window listed. If the original box is missing, you won't know the show number, and the run date will have to be discovered from third party sources, such as Billboard.

I did find a listing in the Boston Globe that proves the recording date was May 30, 1982.  Cost of a ticket was $1.50.  Let's see...minimum wage in 1982 in Massachusetts was $3.35 an hour.  So..in 2024 terms, it would be like a ticket for $6.75.  The further we get from the past, the weirder it looks.  At those prices, why wasn't I at a show every night of my life?

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all of the Voodoo Crew: the authors who post, Our Beloved Audience who drop the occasional comment, the behind-the-scenes participants like Sam Eliot's Mustache and Matt, and our fellow bloggers such as Jonder, JustDave, and Mr. Throckmorton III who drop by the Voodoo Wagon Secret Headquarters now and then!

I know Jobe has a soft spot in his heart for a little bit of Jim Carroll, so I timed this one to land on Christmas day, just for him!  :)

He ships 'em across the U.S.A. and I tag 'em and do a bit of research, and you get to listen to 'em.

This one is a pre-FM from the original radio reels.

On the American Express "guess who is singing" commercial, the answer is "The Manhattan Transfer."

Once again, a MAGNIFICENT copy of a rare radio show. I found a review of the show from the Chicago Tribune of May 15, 1982, plus an earlier article by the same reporter, and the Park West print ad.

So, we're a bit thin on the documentation for this one, but I'm rushing things, as I have a show I want to post for JOBE as a Christmas present tomorrow!

Our pal Dirk pointed out an incorrect title!  I've updated the file to reflect the correct title of "Can't Waste A Minute" and adjusted the post to have the new information.  Also, to Dirk's point...YES...this is a PARTIAL concert.  The syndicated shows were often edited down from a longer concert.  Sometimes they had songs edited in from other concerts, too.

Another from the Sam Eliot's Mustache collection.

He ships 'em across the U.S.A. and I tag 'em and do a bit of research, and you get to listen to 'em.

This one is a pre-FM from the original radio reels.

I found a mention in a story about concert cancellations in the Philadelphia Inquirer of July 26, 1982 saying "In recent weeks, Atlantic City shows by the Crusaders jazz group and Gary U.S. Bonds were scrapped because of poor advance sales. (Bonds was rescheduled at South Street's Ripley Music Hall and played to a two-thirds full house)."

So this is a concert that was downsized right out of Atlantic City and moved sixty miles west to a smaller nightclub.  We don't have any equivalent move here in the Bay Area; population density falls off in such a way that when you get sixty miles from San Francisco, there either aren't any night clubs with live music or there are geographical and transit barriers that limit options.

I found a couple of print ads for the show, and I included the article about the concert cancellations.

Downsized or not, this is a good show from the period where Bonds' career was revitalized through the proximity of Springsteen.  And... we've got five Springsteen songs here, all of which were unreleased by him at the time.  They probably came out on one of his archival dumps like "Too Many Tracks" (or whatever it was named, that four-CD set from the late 90s...) but I'm too lazy to check.

On the American Express "who am I" ad where you have to guess the singer, it's the Gatlin Brothers.  Yeah, I know, I should have given a spoiler alert.

Anyway... happy holidays from Đ®åⒻṬëŕṽøï to all of Our Beloved Readers, and keep an eye on this space, I've got a few more of Sam's pre-FM Captured Live! shows coming in the next week.

Wiki says:
Mississippi Nights was a music club in St. Louis, Missouri. It opened on October 11, 1976 and was located at 914 N 1st Street, on the western bank of the Mississippi River, four blocks north of the Gateway Arch in Laclede's Landing.

Concerts at the venue, which held up to 1,000 people, were often "all ages" events, with just over one percent restricted to patrons 21 and over.

The club is the subject of a song on the album Venue Songs by They Might Be Giants. George Thorogood & the Destroyers' album Live: Let's Work Together features tracks recorded at Mississippi Nights.

While closed now, they have a website where you can buy merch: https://store.mississippinights.com/index.php

We don't have the cue sheet for this, but I did find a newspaper ad.

And there's a mystery.  Or at the least a contradiction.

The Billboard listing says this was scheduled for broadcast June 21, 1982...this was in Billboard a week AFTER that date on June 26.  But the print ad I found for the Mississippi Nights club shows Johansen played on Saturday July 10, 1982.

I don't have an answer to this mystery.  It could be Billboard was just plain wrong, or that Johansen played the same club twice in a very short period of time.

Once more we dip into the Sam Eliot's Mustache tape collection.  This one is an off-the-air recording from a local radio station.  The sound is not as good as the pre-FM's we have recorded directly from the radio reel-to-reel tapes.  The rarity of these shows make it worth preserving.  The show is missing the "audience interview" and "outro" credits at the end.

There was no broadcast date noted on the cassette, so we have to Scooby-Doo this one.

The Captured Live! series started broadcast in 1982.

I found a newspaper listing that shows Shooting Star played the Civic Center in Salisbury, MD on September 4, 1982.

I note they also played the Civic Center on September 21, 1981.  Could that be the date? They play several songs from their third LP, III Wishes, released on July 9, 1982.  It's not likely they'd be playing songs from an album that was not yet released (and probably not even recorded).

My conclusion is that it's September 9, 1982.

As usual, flac files of wavs, plus a newspaper article. And also as usual, if any of Our Beloved Audience have any information, please drop it into the comments section below.  It's LIKELY that I'm getting something wrong on these digitizations, but I'm happy to correct errors.

This digitization features the "hosted" version.  The original sets sent to radio stations came with an additional "unhosted" version (a total of 4 LPs), allowing local radio DJ's to produce their own version of the show by reading from a script. Stations received both a hosted version with prerecorded announcements, and an unhosted version with a script, allowing the local disc jockey to do the lead ins and segment breaks.  The unhosted versions had "beds" of a live concert audience for the disc jockey to talk over, making it sound like he was at the show.

You get 300 dpi scans of all four disc labels, instructions, two pages of the script, an entertainment listing confirming the date of the show, and a newspaper review of the show. Note that the script is pretty much useless, as it's for use with the unhosted version.

Once again, we dip into the Sam Elliot's Mustache Collection for the second of the nine reel-to-reel Captured Live! shows he shared with us.

So, what do we know about this show, and how do we know it?  Announcer Ken Calvert says "tonight I'm standing inside the hall, here in Lansing, Michigan..."

A search on the Internet for Donnie Iris Lansing 1982 turns up a show on theconcertdatabase.com on Feb. 16, 1982, in East Lansing.  Not quite Lansing, but my guess this is like 'em taking the stage here in Oakland and saying "it's great to be back in San Francisco..."   If you're playing in any town in what the Office of Manaagment and Budget calls the "Lansing-East Lansing Metropolitan Statistical area" and which in 1982 encompassed the counties of Ingham, Eaton and Clinton, you're in "Lansing."

We also know that this was the fifth show in the series.  The cue sheet is missing.  We're not sure of the broadcast date, but I'm reading back issues of Billboard in the hopes of finding that out.

I was not familiar with Donnie Iris, so it was fun to hear a "new" artist.

You know the drill:  flac files of wavs.  No cue sheet.  I did find a review of the show from a local newspaper.  I hope you're enjoying the newspapers that I've been including recently.

UPDATE:  One of our Regular Readers wrote to us and mentioned that a buddy of his wrote a book about Donny Iris, and he included the following link:

There are copies available on Amazon...search for author D.X. Ferris!

.38 Special / Dallas, TX 1982 - Captured Live CL-583

CAPTURED LIVE!
.38 Special CL 583
For broadcast: Week of May 23, 1983

Recorded at the Reunion Arena, Dallas, Texas

The likely recording date is November 26, 1982,
Hosted by Perry Stone.

Captured Live! LPs had a Disc Code numbering system combining the first letters of the show name (“CL”) with the number of the show (1, 2, 3…)  and the year (either 1983 or 1984). As an example, the first show of 1983 was CL 183, the second show was CL 283, etc.).

Something went wrong with the numbering for this show, as there is a Jethro Tull show with the same number.  I've included a copy of the CL 583 Jethro Tull disc label to document that I'm not finally getting that acid flashback they warned me about back in the 70s.

21 Captured Live! CL-583 Break - Perry Stone
22 Captured Live! CL-583 Outor - Perry Stone

This is a 3 LP set, but there are only five sides, the sixth side is blank.  The last bit of the etching in the run out groove is anybody's guess, part is a cursive script and the letters are not clear.

CL•583•CM CR  script: 8e OR Se
CL•583•CM CR  script: 8e OR Se
CL•583•CM CR  script: 8e OR Se
CL•583•CM CR  script: 8e OR Se
CL•583•CM CR  script: 8e OR Se

The vinyl on this was not mint, so this one took a lot of work to clean up.

Flac files of .wavs.  300 dpi scans of all six disc labels (yes, even the blank side), the cue sheet (wrinkled, but readable).

This version digitized August 2022 by you-know-who, direct from the syndicated radio station discs.

Captured Live! broadcast a second .38 Special concert in 1984 as CL-1484. Ten of the songs on this 1983 broadcast are repeated, but the set list is reordered (for example, the show opens with Wild-Eyed Southern Boys as the first track).  I don't have that show for comparison, but you know how it goes here..."We get on our phones, scour the Internet....and Scooby-Doo this shit."

So here goes:

There's a bootleg released in 2020 named "Hot Night at the Juke Joint: The Dallas Broadcast 1984."  The set list matches the 10 song Captured Live CL 1484 1984 show.  If the bootleg is from Dallas, then most likely so is the 1984 Captured Live! show.  As the 1983 broadcast is identified by Perry Stone as being from Dallas, it's likely they're  sourced from the same concert.

Quod erat demonstrandum:

If you bought the bootleg, this version has five more songs from the same show (Back On The Track, Chain' Lightnin', I've Been A Mover, Take 'em Out, and Turn It On).

From Wiki:
"Reunion Arena was an indoor arena located in the Reunion district of downtown Dallas, Texas. The arena served as the primary home of the National Hockey League's Dallas Stars and the National Basketball Association's Dallas Mavericks. The venue's capacity held accommodations for 17,000 for ice hockey spectators, and 18,190 for basketball spectators.

Reunion Arena was demolished in November 2009 and the site was cleared by the end of the year."

Recording date is likely April 6, 7, or 8th, 1984
as I've found a copy of a local base newspaper, the "Hawaii
Marine" dated April 4, 1984 that mentions that "a carnival featuring rides,
food, refreshments and the rock band "The First Airborne
Rock and Roll Division" should liven Fort DeRussy this weekend."

From what I've discovered, the First Airborne Rock and Roll Division
played for three nights at Fort DeRussy Military Reservation,
which would be April 6, 7, or 8th, 1984. It's possible the show
is from any (or several) of those dates.

A copy of that newspaper page has been added to the file.  Note
that several online sources list this show as "March 1984."

The band members of the First Airborne Rock and Roll Division on
the 1984 tour were:

Cheap Trick:
Rick Neilson
Robin Zander
Bun E. Carlos

Kansas:
Phil Ehart
John Elefante
Richard Williams

Le Roux:
Leon Medica

Pablo Cruise:
David Jenkins
Cory Lerios
John Pierce

Doobie Brothers:
Patrick Simmons

(This set list is not the same as the one listed above...but any duplicated song titles are the same versions)

Captured Live! produced radio shows starting in March 1982 to December 1984 for affiliated stations on the RKO Radio Network.  Distribution was usually on two or three LP sets, and Captured Live! produced hosted and unhosted versions.  A script was included for the stations that chose to use the unhosted version.   Over the years the full sets with both hosted/unhosted versions have often been split apart and sold as separate items.

As of June 18, 1984, the show changed to "hosted only," all shows after that date should not have an "unhosted" version.

I've also seen Captured Live! reel-to-reel tapes for sale, and they don't seem to have a corresponding LP version. As this show was broadcast after that date, I am assuming there was only a "hosted" version.

Most of the shows were broadcasts of current live concerts recorded for Captured Live!, but there was a Fleetwood Mac show consisting of their 1974 KSAN-FM studio broadcast from the Record Plant.

The show numbering scheme took the number of the show in sequence plus the last two digits of the year:  the first show of 1983 was 183, the second show was 283, etc.

The First Airborne Rock And Roll Division band came from an idea by Phil Ehart of Kansas for a series of USO (United Service Organizations Inc.) shows for U.S. military servicemen.  The version of the band touring in the SPRING of 1984 included members of Kansas, Cheap Trick, Pablo Cruise, Doobie Brothers and LeRoux.  They played shows at bases in Hawaii, Okinawa, Japan, the Philipines, Diego Garcia, Germany, and also did shows on aircraft carriers in the Indian Ocean.  Ehart put together different groups of stars for First Airborne USO tours in 1985 and 1986.

Captured Live! did a two part broadcast of the First Airborne Rock And Roll Division's appearance at Fort DeRussy Military Reservation in Honolulu, Hawaii.   The first syndicated broadcast date was on June 4, 1984 (show CL-1984, hosted and unhosted versions), and featured the Kansas/Pablo Cruise songs.  The second broadcast was June 11, 1984 (show CL-2084, hosted and unhosted versions) had the Patrick Simmons/Cheap Trick songs.  I've seen circulating versions of the show that attribute the syndicated date of the shows as the actual date of the concert, which I now think was in April of 1984 (based on the reference in the local newspaper "Hawaii Marine."  There was also a "greatest hits" version of the show issued as Captured Live! CL-3384 (broadcast date of September 10, 1984) that featured songs from both shows.  This should be a "hosted" version only.

This version is digitized from the LPs of the UNHOSTED version of the the second show (CL-2084, unhosted). So this is HALF the show. There are a few long spaces of the audience noise intended as a "bed" for the disk jockey to read the script.  I've included a 300 dpi copy of the script, the cue sheet, instructions, a letter to the Program Director, a disc label, and a few news articles I found on the internet.

I have now found a copy of the later "greatest hits" version of the show with a broadcast date of September 10, 1984, and I'll post that one, too.

Jethro Tull - Captured Live! CL-583 (L.A. Memorial Sports Arena 1980)

JETHRO TULL - CAPTURED LIVE!
RKO Radio Networks CL 583
Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena
Corrected date of the show is November 12, 1980

I've never been a big fan of Jethro Tull.  Back in '76 or '77, a friend of mine dropped by the restaurant where I worked as a cook to say "hi" before heading to a Tull show in Oakland.  He came back before the end of my shift...obviously not having stayed for the entire show.

"The band came on with this dancing pantomime zebra.  Two guys jumping around in a zebra costume.  Anderson comes out on stage, and the zebra poops out three rubber balls out of its ass.  Anderson picks up the zebra poop rubber balls, and starts JUGGLING for the crowd.  I thought this isn't rock and roll, this is a circus act.   Three songs later, I left."

There are reasons why I became a punk rocker in 1977...and that's one of 'em.  Forty years later?  Ah, it was fun digitizing this show, and I hope you like it.

Digitized from the five sided, 3-LP syndicated radio disc. Side 6 was blank.

The show is hosted by Perry Stone.  This version does not have commercials on it.  There was also another version of the show with national commercials.

All tracks are recorded live at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena on December 11, 1980 during Jethro Tull's "A" tour. The internet says this concert was previously released in 1981 as one of the 3LP "A Night On The Road" syndicated radio broadcasts (ANOTR-581).  The "A Night On The Road" version includes three songs missing on this Captured Live! show: Working John Working Joe, Protect And Survive, and Locomotive Breath, but is missing Batteries Not Included and Uniform (included here).

I don't have the ANOTR version, but I'll keep an eye on EBAY.  It'll turn up eventually, and if so, I'll throw a bid at it.

The Internet also tells me that Perry Stone erroneously mentions Peter-John Vettese as the keyboard-player where it should be Eddie Jobson. The Internet is a bit of a know-it-all, isn't it?

Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena was built in Exposition Park in 1959 and featured an elliptical transverse steel truss roof with a span of 315 feet x 430 feet. The structure was demolished in 2016.  It had a capacity of 22,400 seats and cost $5.2 million to build.

Eddie Money / Captured Live! CL 283, Orange Pavilion, San Bernardino, CA 1982

Eddie Money
Captured Live! CL-283
Recorded at the Orange Pavilion in San Bernardino, CA.

Rocktourdatabase.com says that Eddie Money played at the Orange Pavilion on December 18, 1982.

The cue sheet does not have a "week of...." broadcast date, but the show was likely broadcast between January and April of 1983...so it's very likely the Dec. 18 date is the source of this show.

The numbering scheme on the Captured Live! records combined "CL" (for Captured Live!") with an ascending show number and the last two digits of the year to produce a unique identifying number.  For 1983, the shows are numbered CL-183, CL-283, CL-383, etc. As the Randy Meisner Captured Live show was broadcast May 9, 1983 and was numbered CL 483, this show (CL 283) must precede it. (The Meisner show is in our archives...).

The Orange Pavilion looks like a giant Quonset hut.  Has any of our audience been to a show there?  If so, was/is it a good venue?

There appear to be two versions of this Eddie Money show.  This version is from a 3 LP 5-sided version (the sixth side is blank).  I've seen Internet listings for a 2 LP version.  The 2-LP version is missing "Back To New York," and "My Friends, My Friends," but adds the track "I Think I'm In Love" (not included here).

I can't find "Back To New York" in Money's discography.  Does anyone know what album that was on?  There's also a cover of the Dovells' version of "You Can't Sit Down" that I don't think has ever appeared on an official release.

I didn't want to leave you folks stuck with the crappy Rockpile bootleg, so here's something that sounds LOTS better!

July 2025 update:
I couldn't find any press on the concert, but did find a story about another show in Fort Worth around the same time.  I've added scans of all six disc labels.

Randy Meisner was touring in support of his third and final solo LP, the self-titled "Randy Meisner," released in August 1982.  Ten tracks from this concert were released in Japan in 1983 as "Dallas" (Epic – 25.3P-482).  This album didn't see another release until 2002, when Rev-Ola added one more track, a second mix of "Take It To The Limit." This made it 11 tracks but still only ten songs.  It was released in the U.S.A. in 2003 as "Live in Dallas," and in Japan as "Live In Dallas, 1982."  Both versions kept the additional alternate mix of "Take It To The Limit" as a bonus track.

There are seven additional songs on the Captured Live! version.  You'll need one of the officially released versions to get the best quality of the other songs.

Captured Live! was a series of syndicated concerts produced for the stations of the RKO Radio Network and affiliated radio stations from 1982 through 1984.  An announcement in Billboard Dec 12 1981 says the shows were to be 26 one hour specials featuring top rock performers in concert settings, with the series to begin in March 1982.

It appears that the 1982 shows were distributed on reel-to-reel tape.  In 1983, they switched to LP sets.  Stations received both a hosted version with prerecorded announcements, and an unhosted version with a script, allowing the local disc jockey to do the lead ins to each segment.  The unhosted version had "beds" of a live concert audience for the disc jockey to talk over, making it sound like he was at the show.  Most of these sets of both version (hosted and unhosted) have been broken up into two versions for resale on the collector's market.

The LPs had a Disc Code numbering system that combined the first letters of the show ( CL ) with the number of the show for that year (1, 2, 3 )  with the year (either 1983 or 1984). As an example, the first show of 1984 was CL 184, the second show was CL 284, etc.)

The RKO radio network ran into trouble when a television advertising billing scandal provoked the FCC to force RKO out of the broadcasting business.  In 1985, the RKO Radio Networks was purchased by United Stations Programming Network and the Captured Live! series came to an end.

Making their Voodoo Wagon debut, here's Duke Jupiter! Duke Jupiter were based in Rochester, New York and released seven albums between 1978 and 1985 in a melodic hard rock style before wrapping up their career in 1986.  They had a very large following in the northeastern U.S.A., and did a Rochester reunion show in 2010 that drew 10,000 fans.

Prior to the the Aldo Nova CL 2184 on June 23, 1984, all shows had two versions: hosted and unhosted.  As this show was after that date, there is only a hosted version of this show.

Jim Ladd was the host, who at the time was with KMET-FM (Los Angeles).  You may also recognize Ladd as "DJ Jim" from Roger Water's "Radio K.A.O.S." album, and he was the inspiration for Tom Petty's "The Last DJ."  On this one, his script maintains the rather silly pretense he's at the actual concert, with lines like "I've just been informed that the band is ready to leave their dressing rooms" and "the audience is standing in the aisle, so don't go away, we're definitely going to get an encore!"

I've digitized this as flac files of waves, and included 300 dpi scans of the cue sheet and a disc label.
