Don Cherry - Scandinavian Radio
Sessions 1965-1971
Broadcast recordings @320
Don (Donald Eugene) Cherry (November 18, 1936 – October 19, 1995) was an innovative jazz trumpeter whose career began with a long association with saxophonist Ornette Coleman, and who would go on to live and work with a wide variety of musicians in many parts of the world. Cherry incorporated influences of Middle Eastern, traditional African, and Indian music into his playing
Other playing opportunities in his career came with Carla Bley's Escalator Over The Hill project and recordings with Lou Reed, Ian Dury, Rip Rig & Panic and Sun Ra.
Don Cherry was closely associated with the Pocket trumpet, a smaller version of the regular trumpet. Closer to a cornet, the pocket trumpet helped Cherry produce his distinct sound as well as allowing him to "smear" notes due to its idiosyncratic slotting. He often spoke about changing horns and mouthpiece sizes to constantly keep him in unfamiliar territory when playing and aiding in the avoidance of cliches.
These recordings are probably not for the casual jazz fan. This is NOT the smooth jazz you hear on the radio or while visiting the dentist.

Trick Or Treat The Album Network For broadcast on Oct. 31, 1993
Recorded on September 18, 1993 at New York City's Hudson Theatre
01. Album Network Intro - Pat St. John 02. I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) 03. You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth 04. Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad 05. Life Is A Lemon And I Want My Money Back 06. Objects In The Rear View Mirror 07. Bat Out Of Hell 08. Paradise By The Dashboard Light 09. Album Network Outro - Pat St. John
First of all, if you're burning this to a CD-R, you need two discs. Even if you drop the Intro and the Outro, there's 82 minutes of music and it won't fit on a single disc.
Speaking of intros and outros, our old buddy Pat St. John shows up yet again as the host. You may recall his introductions from A Night On The Road, Super Groups, Live From The House Of Blues, Live From Electric Ladyland, and Live From Central Park.
The show was recorded at New York City's Hudson Theatre. It's a rather small venue for Mr. Loaf's hefty talent, with a current capacity of 970. In the 1980's, the Hudson Theatre was"The Savoy" rock n' roll venue.
It was recorded on September 18 and broadcast 44 days later on Halloween. The Halloween connection is a bit thin, with the "Bat Out Of Hell" lyrics the only bit connected with the holiday. The CD design is Halloween themed, wtih a nice bat on an orange background. Usually these radio shows are generic, but the Album Network put a bit of effort into the CD design.
This has been bootlegged many times. Back in the Golden Age Of Silver CDs when a European copyright loophole allowed the release of unlicensed material, many bootlegs sourced from this show were issued.

John Handy - The Monterey Jazz Festival
Recording Date September 18, 1965
{Out of Print}
Soundboard Recording @256
John Handy's performance at the 1965 Monterey Jazz Festival was a sensation and arguably the high point of his career. The altoist, using a quintet that included violinist Michael White, guitarist Jerry Hahn, bassist Don Thompson, and drummer Terry Clarke (all of whom were young unknowns at the time), played two lengthy songs: the 27-minute "If Only We Knew" and "Spanish Lady," which lasts a mere 19 and a half minutes. After a brief theme, "If Only We Knew" mostly features unaccompanied solos. Handy's opening statement immediately quieted the crowd, which was amazed by the altoist's courage and the logic of the advanced yet tonal music. "Spanish Lady" also has a long Handy statement and builds up to a very exciting conclusion. Even over three decades later, the music sounds fresh, colorful, and innovative. ~Scott Yanow
One
of the greatest live performances ever, it belongs in every jazz
lover's library. I was lucky enough to be there, and heard the group,
then unheralded, perform that day. This recording captures the spirit
of the music perfectly. It presages many later developments in music,
fusion, complex multilayered rhythms, and is a stunning performance! ~R. Ornstein
Terry Clarke - Guitar (Electric) John Handy - Sax (Alto) Don Thompson - Bass (Acoustic) Michael White - Violin (Electric)
Track List: 1 If Only We Knew Handy 26:58
2 Spanish Lady Handy 19:34
The shit hit the fan when George Coleman left. Tony Williams never liked the way George played, and the direction the band was moving in revolved around Tony… Tony didn’t liked George because George played everything almost perfectly, and Tony didn’t like saxophone players like that. He like musicians who made mistakes, like being out of key. But George just played the chords. He was a hell of a musician… Tony wanted somebody who was reaching for different kinds of things, like Ornette Coleman…
My first choice to replace George was Wayne Shorter, but Art Blakey had made him musical director of the Jazz Messengers and he couldn’t leave then. So we hired Sam Rivers.
We traveled to Tokyo to play some concerts over there. It was my first trip to Japan… We played Tokyo and Osaka. I’ll never forget my arrival in Japan. Flying to Japan is a long-ass flight. So I brought coke and sleeping pills with me and I took both. Then I couldn’t go to sleep so I was drinking, too. When we landed there were all these people to meet us at the airport.
We’re getting off the plane and they’re saying, “Welcome to Japan, Miles Davis,” and I threw up all over everything. But they didn’t miss a beat. They got me some medicine and got me straight and treated me like a king. Man, I had a ball, and I have respected and loved the Japanese people ever since. Beautiful people. They have always treated me great. The concerts were a big success.
One of the great things (for me) on the net is while looking for one thing you'll find dozens of other things that pique your interest. Case in point the band you have hear. I just found out about these guys today, but find out they started in 2015. Then I find out the main guy Omar Higgins(bass-vocals) died. Now I don't know a lot about these guys but from what I can tell had I been aware of them earlier I would have posted something by now. Live gig here, sounds like soundboard but I think it's just a great audience recording. Here's where you come in, seeing as how I was not familiar with this group, I don't know the song titles to some of these songs. But I'm sure there's a few of you out there that were hip to these guys long before me, so...if you could give me the missing song titles I will be in your gratitude. My friend says these guys remind him of Green Day, I don't here that at all do you? Also included a great interview and a great song clip. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
Here's some Boogie Rock & Roll from Foghat, as requested by Babinga in the comments from another post...
What an Excellent Show This one is, too!
Sound Quality and Performance are Awesome (Somethin' they don't say in France a lot, it seems...) to say the least!
This is one of the Earliest Concerts I have by Foghat, so those of You that Only Know Slow Ride and a handful of later songs will have to wait just a bit...
This show was in support of their Rock And Roll Outlaws record, which they do just a couple songs from.
Foghat seemed to be another one of those bands that were more comfortable On Stage than in The Studio, at least it seems so to me...The songs are more Energized and Rockin', not that the Studio records were bad or anything (of which I own quite a bunch...) - but Live they just really come Alive!

They were at Home on the Stage, and they left everyone they ever played a-smokin'!

Ginger Baker's Airforce - 2
Studio Recordings @320
{Out of Print}
Ginger Baker's Air Force were a Jazz fusion band comprising Ginger Baker on drums, Steve Winwood on organ and vocals, Ric Grech on violin and bass, Jeanette Jacobs on vocals, Denny Laine on guitar and vocals, Phil Seamen on drums, Alan White on drums, Chris Wood (rock musician) on tenor sax and flute, Graham Bond on alto sax, Harold McNair on tenor sax and flute, and Remi Kabaka on percussion. Their first live shows, at Birmingham Town Hall in 1969 and the Royal Albert Hall, in 1970, also included Jeanette Jacobs and Eleanor Barooshian (both former members of girl group The Cake). The band released two albums, both in 1970: Ginger Baker's Air Force and Ginger Baker's Air Force 2. The second album involved substantially different personnel from the first, with Ginger Baker and Graham Bond being the primary constants between albums. Ginger Baker's Air Force also played a set at Wembley Stadium on 19 April 1970, during the start of the World Cup Rally, which went from London to Mexico City.
Ginger Baker's Air Force 2, if it is too musical and avant garde for an audience that embraced Clapton, it should be commended for its sense of adventure and elegance. "12 Gates of the City" is a delight, swimming with sounds from the Arabian nights and the swamps of New Orleans, a sublime and uncharted mix that sounds better years after it was recorded. A timeless, yet pretty much forgotten record which deserved more FM airplay in its day than it got. ~AMG

Seems there's 1 thing about blogging I'm not that great at (Well, At Least 1 thing, I should say - I'm sure there's many more): It's judging what will go over well, and what won't...
Sometimes, I think I have some bootleg that's awesome to share and hardly any D/L or comments...Then, I'll just post some bootleg 'cause it's handy or whatever (like the Night Ranger post a few posts below) and it'll surprise me when folks really dig it!
So, for those of You that picked up the Other One - Here's one a little different!
The other show was a concert in front of thousands...This one they play in front of maybe a dozen!
It's one of those Live-In-The-Studio Kinda Things!
Dawn Patrol was released in late '82 and this recording took place in early '83...They were Tourin' & Promotin' their first record!
Essentially, what You have here is Dawn Patrol - Live In The Studio! (Minus 1 song: Young Girl In Love). This took place in Cincinnati, Ohio at Fifth Floor Studios and was Broadcast by Some Radio Station (I Don't Know which one it was, so I jokingly put the Logo of the Most Famous Radio Station from Cincinnati on the Back Cover)! It's much more Raw and Heavy than the Album! And the In Between Songs' Banter is pretty interesting as well!
But, I think it's a really Cool Bootleg - So, probably Nobody else will!

When I first met with "Snoid Studios"
in the midth 70ies our friendship was founded on a common passion for
Max Romeo & The Upsetter "War ina Babylon". He was then deeply into
Reggae, had a big collection of LPs and singles he had purchased in
Zürich, where a good Reggae Store was placed.
At that time I
was engaged in taping everything that could be found in my friends'
record collections and so this funny wall of tapes arised from that -
including a Reggae part I'm just busy ripping by now. I'm on R 19 (of
36)
Night Ranger was one of those bands back in the 80's that straddled the fence (quite successfully) between Hard Rock and being Radio & MTV friendly! Their first few albums were really good, I thought!
This is a Great Concert! It's an Exciting Performance by the band with Excellent Sound Quality provided by King Biscuit Flower Hour! And a solid setlist!
I was listenin' to this one in the car the other day on the way to the store and back, so I thought I'd throw it out there for anyone that wanted to live in the past (like me) and remember some good times with some catchy, rockin' tunes...
I've seen this one on other sites - but most have a song or two missin'! I believe this to be the Complete Concert Broadcast!
Not much else to say, 'cept IF it's You're kinda thing of thing grab it - IF Not - Let It Pass and Wait for somethin' else to go by (gots more things comin' up, as do the other folks postin' here and over at FBS and in the Bookstore)!
