Notes:
Gary Moore's shows go down very well here, no wonder why is that. Over the weekend you liked the return of Madrid '85 show, so I believe you will be happy to find he checked back there again two years later with the great "Wild Frontier" promoting ensemble. Plus he was transmitted by the radio. These radio captures from 1987 would really serve immensely well for what could become a truly historic live album, hard to match by anybody. Although - listening to this - I wish I could edit out the Spanish restless talker over the songs... Pre-fm of this would be a splendid find. Nevertheless, it's back to your reach - and it's Gary - as you'd expect - totally splendid. Enjoy the sorely missed hero!

Starting off with “Fanfare For The Common Man” in the same rock arrangement ELP played in 1977.  Gary Moore’s guitar takes the place of Emerson’s keyboards in the first half of the show, but Tommy Eyre does assert himself during the improvisation in the middle.  He solos on the keyboards and duets with Moore’s guitar.  The Copeland cover segues into a heavy metal arrangement of “Karn Evil 9.”

The bulk of the show is drawn from Greg Lake including the Moore written “Nuclear Attack,” “The Lie” and “Retribution Drive.”  Thin Lizzy is represented with Moore’s “Parisienne Walkways” and they play a cover of the 1962 hit “You Really Got A Hold Of Me” by The Miracles.

A highlight of the set is “Love You Too Much” from Greg Lake.  This is the song which Lake co-wrote with Bob Dylan.  The lyrics are closer to Lake circa Love Beach and really not too much like Dylan, but it is a fun song none the less.  Moore especially has fun with the solos in the middle.

“21 Century Schizoid Man” has a spacy introduction and Moore doesn’t try to duplicate Fripp’s angular guitar solo, but rather plays his own brand of heavy riffing power chords.  The show ends with a version of “The Court Of The Crimson King” in which Moore plays the mellotron melody on the guitar.  It is interesting how Lake, wanting to establish a solo career, would end the song with two ancient King Crimson songs.

Bad Day For The Blues - RIP Gary Moore

The legendary Irish rock and blues guitarist was discovered Sunday in a hotel room in Southern Spain.

Gary Moore, former guitarist for Thin Lizzy, passed away Sunday in Southern Spain, the BBC reported Sunday. The cause of death has yet to be determined, but Adam Parsons, who manages Thin Lizzy, told BBC News that Moore had died in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 58-year-old joined Thin Lizzy in the early 1970s after the band’s lead singer Phil Lynott brought him into the fold to replace outgoing Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell.
The Irish native was known for his tumultuous yet steady friendship with Lynott.
During the summer of 1979, Moore left Thin Lizzy in the middle of a U.S. tour. In the mid-1980s, the duo scored a Top 5 English and Irish hit with the single “Out in The Fields” after Thin Lizzy broke up. Lynott died soon after the chart success in January of 1986.
More recently, Moore released a string of solo records over the past decade in the blues-rock vein.
Eric Bell, the Thin Lizzy guitarist Moore replaced, told the BBC today he was "in shock" regarding Moore's death.
"I still can't believe it," he said. "He was so robust.”
Moore was fond of Spain and played a guitar festival in Barcelona in 2009 alongside such names as Jackson Browne.
