The Rolling Stones played Giants Stadium in East Rutherford on August 12, 14, 15, and 17, 1994.In December 2010, the Westwood One Superstars In Concert syndicated radio show featured songs drawn from those performances. The songs chosen for inclusion by Westwood One are pretty much what you’d expect from a radio show – the usual big hits. It’s the Stones, it’s sourced directly from the original radio disc, and I included a scan of the cue sheet. I can’t find anything that indicates that Westwood One broadcast material from Giants Stadium prior to 2010.

Side A is the Pousette-Dart Band live from Boston. The venue and date are unknown. They played several dates there in 1977.  There was a live broadcast by WTTK-FM on Friday April 22, 1977, as mentioned in the Radio Highlights feature in the Boston Globe.  That might be the source of this show, but the newspaper listing doesn't mention the venue, so that's not confirmed.

Side B is an interview with Ronnie Hammond, the singer for the Atlanta Rhythm Section.

The Pousette-Dart Band show includes a cover of Taj Mahal's "She Caught The Katy And Left Me A Mule To Ride" (also covered by Wet Willie, Albert King, the Blues Brothers, and the Youngbloods).  I'm not an expert on the band, but this song may be unreleased by the Pousette-Dart Band.

Collective member Just Dave over at The New JDP (LINK:https://thenewjdp.blogspot.com/ ) was given a digitized copy from one of his readers and sent me the files.  I chaptered the files and did research into the concert and found press coverage and some pretty bad scans of the CDs.  We do have good scans of the cue sheets, so hurray us! (See how this "collective" works? we've got a team working cross-country on giving you, our Beloved Audience, the best shows, ever!).

As usual, we have some Rock & Roll Mysteries for you, the Voodoo Wagon Beloved Audience (and the New JDP audience) to ponder and peruse and perhaps...even SOLVE!

This guy hated it...

The show was recorded on August 28, 1993, at the R.D.S. Arena in Dublin, Ireland in front of a crowd of 30,000 fans. This concert was the last show for the ZOOROPA ‘93 European tour and it was only fitting it would end in U2's hometown of Dublin. The show was a BIG DEAL at the time; I've included a lot of the press coverage from Irish newspapers.  

The coverage has a lot of things lost to the past... Complaints about opening act Marxman using the phrase "Tiocfaidh ár lá" on their debut single. Foster's Lager considering an injunction against Guinness over beer rights at the show, counterfeit tickets, and lots of articles about money.

Anyway...there is a TON of press coverage here, this show was HUGE. It was broadcast live, via satellite, around the world. Westwood One not only advertised the broadcast in the press but published a "teaser" ad on July 9th - seven weeks before the concert - announcing in ALL CAPS "ON AUGUST 28, 1993 THE CONCERT BROADCAST EVENT OF THE YEAR WILL AIR LIVE ON RADIO STATIONS AROUND THE GLOBE."   

They didn't name the group, or the venue, you had to figure it out for yourself.

Now...here's the MYSTERY:

What the heck are these CDs?

In 1993 WW1 was using factory pressed CDs, not CD-r's.  We don't have the original discs to examine but the other 1993 WW1 discs I have are glass-mastered
factory pressed CDs, not burned CD-rs.
This begs the question:  Can you record a concert on a Saturday, edit, master, and press it on CD and ship the CDs to radio stations for broadcast six days later the following Friday?  

I'm skeptical of such a short turn-around time...plus...this thing has eight national advertisers... lots of moving parts.  Jeez, this stuff was a nightmare when I managed preprint advertising at the local newspaper.  Is the copy released and ready to print?  Anyway...the ONE WEEK turn-around is noteworthy...

And yet we have the basic facts: the concert was on August 28, and the Westwood One show cue sheets claim a broadcast date of September 4th.

The other mystery is WHY?  If you have a worldwide satellite broadcast on Saturday, why repeat the same concert with commercials the following weekend?  Why would you do that?

It is POSSIBLE this was some sort of promotional release... except it makes no sense to put paid national ads on a promotional release.

So...we have a MYSTERY!

Why put out a concert a week after you broadcast the concert by satellite?

One other note:  Westwood One's numbering system at the time was a year, plus the calendar week of the show. It didn't indicate the show was part of a series, so it doesn't work as a catalog number.  There is a Westwood One In Concert 93-36 (Melissa Ethridge) and a Superstar Concert 93-36 (Robert Plant).

Recorded live in New York City and “L’Secret L’ocation” in 1975.

The Amazing Kornyfone Record Label (TAKRL) was one of the first bootlegging record labels in America. Kornyfone was based in Southern California in the 1970s. The label released albums from such artists as The Beatles, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Pink Floyd, Genesis, and others. Kornyfone was noted for their packaging, with interesting artwork and informative covers.

According to Clinton Heylin, “Though Dub’s output [at TMQ] in the five years separating Great White Wonder from Tales from The Who had outstripped any of his competitors, TMQ’s catalogue pales alongside what Ken and co. unleashed between 1974 and the end of 1976. A hundred-plus titles from the flagship label, The Amazing Kornyphone Record Label, were supplemented by represses of Smokin’ Pig titles, thirty-two titles on TKRWM (The Kornyphone Records for the Working Man), a dozen double-albums on Singer’s Original Double Discs (SODD) and sixteen releases on Highway High Fi Collector’s Edition Records (HHCER) (which regularly appeared with TAKRL or Smokin’ Pig labels - just to add to the confusion).” The TAKRL label was active between 1974 -1977. By cross referencing the songs with Moshpit I identified they're the same songs as from the venues listed above.

However...Moshpit has the date of the Charlie Daniels Band as August 19, 1979.  We know from the cue sheet that was the air date, so Moshpit is wrong.

A quick glance at Newspapers.com found a newspaper review that proves the date was July 5, 1979, and provides the name of the venue as Glen Oak Park Amphitheater.

The date for the short Dixie Dregs set provided by Moshpit was a very plausible July 17, 1979, but they're wrong about that, too.  There are three newspaper ads advertising a contest to win tickets to the show on Saturday July 16, 1979.

I got this in trade years ago, back in the 1980s.  It's mono, why, I don't know...there may be a stereo version out there.  The set list has some fun covers such as the MC5's "Ramblin' Rose" and an eclectic mix of Jose Feliciano, Jerry Lee Lewis, Television, Donovan, Lionel Richie, and Elvis Presley.
