Now normally I hate hair bands. There are exceptions though, I always thought Ratt's singles sounding 60ish, reminding me of The Seeds were pretty good. However I thought for the most part their albums sucked. But jeez you wanna torture me. Throw me in a room and play Poison, Motley Crue, Warrant, Winger, Quiet Riot, Scorpions (without Uli Roth) Slaughter, Dokken etc: and I'll give you all of my vinyl and CD's. However one band thrown into this were these guys. They didn't deserve it. These guys had chops (check out the Crossroads riff they throw in, in Back To The Grind at the fadeout on the studio album) These guys had hooks. They had a semi-hit with the song Doghouse but it's never included in any 80's hair band comps. Their personal lives were pretty much a train-wreck (check out their bio on Wikipedia) I'm pretty sure this came from Here Rock City before they went invite. Oh by the way it looks like "Rock N' Roll Plus Two" has gone private. Rich The Demon I know you check in here occasionally how about an invite. See Scans

Sea Hags are great. Would like to find more of their recordings now.

ReplyDeleteI went over to mom's, climbed up into the attic, and went through two boxes of my brother's tapes but NO SEA HAGS. I have a distinct memory of seeing one so I'll keep hunting. That's the bad news...the good news is there were a couple of interesting audience tapes in there, including some rather less well known groups like the Paladins and Beatnik Beatch...AND a Sugarcubes show at the I-Beam. I have't played any of 'em yet...but I'll get to work tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteThe start of Paladins is a bit "wobbly." I haven't played all of it yet, though, so it might get better. The Beatnik Beatch sounds like a major find; it's got a lot from their next band (Jellyfish) on it and it's clear, well balanced, no distortion....I'll have it up here by the weekend, Right now I'm tracking down song titles. I've sent MP3s to some folks that know the Jellyfish obscurities. Of note: they do a cover of AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long.: No challenge to AC/DC's version, but it's a lot of fun.
